I'm scared of the Outback Steakhouse

For a large commerical steakhouse, Outback is the shit hands down..

To be totally honest with you, I prefer Texas RoadHouse for a "chain" steak house over Outback.

that could well be personality/atmosphere.. I like Texas Roadhouse's food (iirc they have a 'Rocky Mountain chicken' that was lovely...) but the atmosphere is just waaaay to country for me... still i dont object when that is the option for the party to attend.. i still like flatgrilled meat though.. you wouldnt believe how difficult it is to explain a flat grill to (southerners) who think their meat isnt cooked without stripes on it..

oh yea btw.. the whole kitchen and wait staff will laugh at you behind closed doors if you:

order a steak well done
or
put ketchup on it....:S

Outback has very very exclusive stockyards...they only place you can get better meat is by knowing the owners

Well, you are part right. Outback has exclusive distributors for their steaks. When i worked for formerly ibp I sold to Performance Food Group. At that time (97&98) we had the contract for all ribeyes to Outback. (Throughout the SE anyway) Yes, they only bought choice beef sometimes they even got certified angus beef when we didn't have enough choice to fill the orders. But as for exclusive stockyards, no, we were just the low bidder.;) :D:D

Never look down on someone, unless they are going down on you.

Hahahahaha...ok, never go bar hopping with me then! That place is by far not even close to country. It has a rustic look, but...hehe...oh man.B|B|B|

been to a few of those ( I eat out ALOT on travel) was totally unimpressed, and they have less options for those who dont want red meat...

Must be an "Amereekan" thing then ... The Keg's up here in Alberta have LOADS of non-red meat options.

crappy steak?? you got a source to back that assertion? Outback has very very exclusive stockyards...they only place you can get better meat is by knowing the owners (of the stockyard, i used to date a girl whos father was one of Outback's providers and yeah HE had better steak, but you cant find better at any commerical steakhouse anywhere)

if you have to season your meat even slightly you are getting poor quality in the first place.. the idea is to taste the meat not someones idea of a good pepper/spice combo...

Like the man said, Outback is weak.

I have never has a more over spiced seasoned peice of meat than from Outback. The cut was decent looking but you couldn't taste it.

Cattlemens <---(Clicky) is a smallish chain out here in Cali that has lovely aged beef, well cut and cooked. Best I've ever had from a chain, otherwise I look for the one off been open for years and years type of place when I look for a good steak. (Not that often lately.)

If you get too scared, just picture Phreezone in his underwear. You may laugh or cry, but at least you won't be scared!

Lets hijack the thread and make fun of phreezone. Woo hoo. You should call me later though cause i gave you a special ringtone.

ps. i guess i should explain the other reason why Outback continues to be a favorite.

hiring polices.

generally it's attitude and atmosphere that will get you hired, however for a loooong time Outback had an unofficial policy about male/female ratios. I was one of two male bartenders and the only male waiter when i worked there..

In addition there is the joke about the 'menu test'. All resturants have menu knowledge tests to pass before hiring. However if, after you turn in your results, when you walk away, if your ass is wider than the menu (unfold it you'll see) then your chances of being hired go waaaaay down... ;)

I've met some of the coolest, most beautiful women in the world at Outback. I wont lie and pretend that isnt part of the reason i keep going to them whereever i travel..

iirc the Outback in Merrit Island, FL even had a few skydivers working there when i was stationed at Patrick AFB.

oh if we're bar hopping, i'll go anywhere anytime, but for sitdown and relax kinda meals the music and the peanuts just really annoy me...

Eh, the only thing to be worried about is paying too much for a crappy steak.

I agree. I was very disappointed the first and only time I had Outback.

ok this is slightly off topic but i have to admit, although i've never eaten at an outback steakhouse i have seen their menu and it kind of annoys me.

It's supposed to be so aussie but yet all the food is american with these names that americans just assume australians use.

we call our fries chips, we call our shrimp prawns and i wouldn't say bufallo wings or ribs is anywhere near aussie, even if you call them Kookaburra Wings or whatever. I'm probably just being narky and i'll be told to shut up but it does kind of get to me that it perpetuates a stereotype of australians that isn't all together true. it's like we're just being used as a gimmick to slap over another american food chain to give it some difference. it's like they've taken whatever part of our culture suits them most and just exploited it, no wonder a lot of australians think americans are insular and ignorant of other cultures when generally speaking they are being fed this trash by major corporations.

I dont understand why when a product goes to the US it has to be americanised so that people accept it more. An Aussie movie that got released in america had to have some things changed before it's release over there so americans would take to it better, they changed the references to aussie shows to american ones, they made the cast say ketchup instead of tomato sauce, things like that... it just seems so rediculous that we're exporting our culture and we're supposed to be proud of it and yet we're changing it to suit another country, i'm sure people can work out what tomato sauce is, it's not that ambiguous, aussies learnt pretty quick what the word ketchup means. sorry for my big rant... it's not and attack, i'm not blaming individuals, our country needs to be stronger in it's cultural identity, not afraid to showcase exactly what we are and i would hope in time that would be enough for other countries to accept. If they did choose to adopt an aussie slant on things we would have a strong enough base for them to take the entire cake without worrying about it not being 'enough' for consumers.

ok i'm done.

On a brighter note: Sunshine i hope you have a nice time tonight :).

it is about as true aussie as 'crocodile dundee' and that is about how serious it's taken too.. it is a theme resturant for fun, not for authentic austrialian food, and never claimed to be anything else.

(the only thing that sucks about The Keg is their "Keg Spec" during hockey season ... they can show the game on the TV in their lounge, but they can't turn up the sound)

Hmm a Canadian bitching about a hockey game.. go figure.. I woulda thunk the pictures would be worth a thousand words..... EH
