RkyMtnHigh 0 #1 July 26, 2004 Any of you have pros/cons experiences with Timeshare? I bought timeshare over the holidays last year and haven't used it yet. I'm wondering if any of you have insight as to do's/don'ts of timeshare. I received my catalog recently of all of their properties and I'm seriously scoping out Costa Rica, St Thomas, Africa Safari trip, Hawaii, Belize, and Bora Bora as trips for my near future. Apparently, I can stay at any of these locations for only $174/week for 12 weeks per year and 2 weeks at my home base which is in Cabo San Lucas. _________________________________________
WFFC 1 #2 July 26, 2004 Just tell me you didn't buy it new...This will be a better discussion in the evening at the WFFC since you'll be at Camp Colorado anyway. I've owned two, sold two (made money on both) and my mom has 3. I'm pretty versed in how they work... edit to add: or pm me your number and I"ll give you a call later if it can't wait...----- ~~~Michael
skymama 37 #3 July 27, 2004 I've been using time shares for about 15 years through RCI. Ours was given to us by my ex's parents, so I'm glad we didn't have to pay for it but are able to reap the benefits. In that circumstance, they are really the best deal around for a whole week of vacation. The cost for one week equals 1-2 normal nights in a hotel and we usually get a whole condo (2 BR/2 BA, full kitchen and laundry facilities) instead of just a room at a hotel. My best advice is to book early! The 2 times I've booked really late (where late means 6 months ahead of time), I've been disappointed in the resorts. You really get the bottom of the barrel when you do that. We won't go back to the one we were at over the summer in SC although we did have fun in the area. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
Jeth 0 #4 July 27, 2004 I also have an RCI timeshare. I never use our "home" resort (the one we bought), but we have exchanged it many times for great places. We have gotten Orlando, Bahamas, Spain and Washington. It does help if you request the exchange early, and also if you own a higher power week (red is highest). Although I own the lowest power and have still gotten some great exchanges. I bought a very cheap week/resort, only $2k, and very cheap maintenance fees, watch out for those! I highly recommend it (for the exchange value). When you get an exchange it is waaaaaay cheaper than a rental or hotel. ($120 for a 2 bd/2 ba for 7 nights) And you can go just about anywhere on earth! "At 13,000 feet nothing else matters." PFRX!!!!! Tailgate 0 #5 July 27, 2004 We also have the RCI/Fairfield thing. Own twice in Fl and once somewhere else ( can't remember without the paperwork. We have never stayed at the ones we own. ON eof the ones in FL is close to the mouse, I think. THe only problem we seem to have is getting time away to use all of our points and finding somewhere that is available on short notice. I should plan ahead more. _________________________________________________ Let me live in my house by the side of the road and be a friend to man- Sam Walter Foss
