skygazer 0 #1 July 28, 2004 Well, I did it. Went to the local airport yesterday on my lunch hour, told them I want to learn to fly! I meant one of the instructors and we connected right away. Showed me around...I almost didn't go back to work! So Sunday is my "discovery" flight and the lessons start from there. I am so excited. I am happy in the sky, my 3 jumps let me taste it, now I know I want to be a pilot. It has been something I have thought about my entire life. My skydiving was the best thing I have ever done...I helped me have the confidence to do anything but I don't think I was doing it for the right reasons. My favorite parts were the ride to altitude and being under canopy. I thank the wonderful folks I have met here and hope I can still visit dz.com. I know I will still go out to SDC, I will always love the camaraderie of the DZ and the great folks there. Any of you pilots that have any hints I'd love to hear from you. Thanks for all the support!_______________________________________
larsrulz 0 #2 July 28, 2004 If you do Part 61 (which it sounds like you are) for your training then don't ignore the book/writen aspect of your training while getting in your flight hours. Your instructor may not sit down to go over the writen part every time you fly, so don't forget about it. I choose to do this for my PPL, and it really sucked having to learn everything for the written at once. I'm changing my tactic for my instrumental rating and it's working much better. As a new pilot, Part 61 just means that you aren't learning at an FAA-certified flight school and doing it through a private instructor/FBO. btw...congrats and good luck...maybe one day you'll be flying for us jumpers! I got a strong urge to fly, but I got no where to fly to. -PF
