Zennie 0 #1 July 25, 2004 Welp. Looks like Lucas can now properly have "Revenge" in the title of one of his flicks. For those of you who aren't geezers like me... Episode 6, Return of the Jedi, was originally slated to be called "Revenge of the Jedi". Only after SW afficionados pointed out that the Jedi were about peace, not hate, did the name get modified. I personally like it. However, I heard the lava pit sequence was going to be some stupid lava/wakeboard thing. WHY can't Lucas just play it straight... like the LOTR directors did? - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon
Zennie 0 #2 July 25, 2004 A part of me hoped that Lucas would do 7,8 & 9... if for no other reason than I could see Mara Jade on the big screen. Then again, he'd probably pick Britney Spears for the role. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon
skymick 0 #3 July 25, 2004 what makes you think lucas would base episodes 7, 8 and 9 on the timothy zahn series (the ones with mara jade in it)? they arnt part of the 'official star wars galaxy' are they?

According to the series of books that follow the original trilogy of movies, Mara Jade was undercover as one of the dancers in Jabba the Hutts palace when Luke and the gang were there...... Yup. She was the Emperor's top assassin.... extremely strong in the Force (i.e. Force-sensitive), but not a Jedi (by her choice). She was originally dispatched by the Emperor to kill Luke. When the Empire fell, her & Luke developed a relationship, got married and had a child. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

Guest #9 July 28, 2004 I can't help thinking about the local radio station here in the Seattle area, with their "morning drive" crew, you know "the zoo", etc. When they read the news about Wall Street, etc., they had the usual background music. But when they had news about Microsoft, they would lead off with the "Darth Vader March" in the background... mh ."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat." turtlespeed 226 #12 July 28, 2004 anyone want to discuss the underlying plot? dgskydive 0 #18 July 28, 2004 QuotePlease tell me that was sarcasm, becuase the LOTR movies had some major divergence from the books. Yes it did. Stayed pretty true, but chagned none the less. Big parts of the books that aren't even in the movies. I have to admit I was very disappointed at the end of Return of the King. In the book, the Hobbits go home and find their home has been taken over by Worm Tongue, people have Hobbits have been killed and some have become almost evil. They have to kick a little as to restore things to normal. Yes, I am a LOTR geek. I have read the books 5 times. Twice as a kid and one time before each movie came out.Dom
Push 0 #19 July 28, 2004 Only 5? The movies are already long and compressed. In my opinion, they're meaningless except as eye candy for people who already read the book. You don't get much from them otherwise. My biggest peeve is the ending of the second movie, where Faramir actually takes them all the way to Gondor. That was lame I think. For the rest, I think they chose the unnecessary (or sometimes just weird, like Tom Bombadil) scenes to remove. I was actually shown on the local news demonstrating my plastic light saber and playing Star Wars Trivial Pursuit with the other fans geeks. ChasingBlueSky 0 #22 July 29, 2004 QuoteLike why only Luke has the force in the original movie? maybe I'm wrong, but I thought they hinted around that Leia had the force too and that's how she knew she was Luke's sis. There is a rumor floating around on the net...I found it on www.theforce.net....here it is....possible spoiler ahead (there is no script out there yet, so it is speculation): Quote The moment Darth Vader wakes up from his slumber, and Anakin Skywalker truly is no more, the force will cease to exist in the land of the living. No more force sensitive children will be born... And all that will remain are those that had the gift before the dark times came, and managed to survive the first waves of the purge. The last two force sensitive beings to come to existance, will be Luke and Leia, born mere seconds before their father's death... And the only survivors of the actual Jedi purge, that will go on for a great many years after the events of ROTS, are, as we all know, Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi. The four of them survive, not to save the galaxy, but to save the man that will. So the guess would be that the Jedi's are weak in the force, as Yoda said, possibly because Vader is absorbing it??? After all, they are all getting weaker and Anakin is only getting stronger. So, by Vader killing of Palpatine and then passing on he restores balance to the force. Yea, its kinda weak, and not where we thought the series was headed....but, it seems to make sense with the lame story line Lucas has been setting up._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me....
