Fishtank 0 #27 July 30, 2004 Hmm...besides all the obvious. Lower Georgetown at night for sure, don't forget the "Excorcist" steps from the movie (south georgetown against the Potamac if I remember right), The Brickseller (duh!), I don't think anybody mentioned Mt. Vernon http://www.mountvernon.org/
peckerhead 0 #28 July 30, 2004 How much time do you have? I have lived about 33 miles from downtown DC for about 4 months now and I have only made a dent in all there is to see. My favorite is the aerospace Museum, you can spend all day there, The dinosaur museum is also cool. You have to walk the mall if you have never been here before (like me) and ride the elevator to the top of the washington monument. The metro is cool, being from a small town in the Northwest I felt like I was in a science fiction movie. Kinda creepy at the same time. It's all good! Vernon http://www.mountvernon.org/ I was going to mention the "Exorcist" stairs, as well. Here's the history and directions; they're very easy to find, and right down the road from a semi-cool pub, if memory serves. http://www.hoyasaxa.com/sports/stairs.htm Taking a picture while no one is on the stairs and placing said picture on your refrigerator is not only a great way to frighten unwanted guests later, but makes a really cool conversation piece. For what it's worth.
 freeflying 0 #31 July 30, 2004 where are you staying? Also just a word of advice: Metro does not go into Georgetown or Adams Morgan -- but taxis are everywhere and are cheap. And watch out for Brickskellar -- I was there one time and there were a few roaches wandering around. And that Brickskellaris in Dupont Circle (fun area and predominantly gay). Definitely go to the Holocaust Museum - you have to get tickets in the morning (they allot times for you for later in the day). You need at least 3 hours there. Its extremely powerful. And another new and hip area - espeically for eating out is the Penn Quarter area -- its full of restaurants and bars.
