TheAnvil 0 #5 July 29, 2004 The Brickskeller Pub is not to be missed. They have an outstanding beer collection. The Smithsonian - each one of them - is just awesome. I could spend days touring them. If you like to drink beer, don't miss the Brickskeller. Vinny the Anvil Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!! bunge 0 #9 July 29, 2004 Was down ther just last weekend, here are some tips. by the lincon memerorial, there is an information booth, there you can pick up a map, for FREE, of all the national parks sites. the national archives has the origianl Declaration of Independance, constitution, and bill of rights. the vietnam memorial is only partly open, they are upgrading the lights. would suguest doing all the smithsonian stuff during the day, most of them close at 5. i found a neat little memorial to the signers of the declaration just off the middle of the mall. lots of walking, or do the $20 all day tourmobile. edit, Oh yeah, didn't get there yet, but there is another air and space building that you can take a shuttle to, and the spy museum isnt a park servce site, its located at F street around the 800's behind the archives. BUNGE I don't hate them, I just like us better.
TheAnvil 0 #10 July 29, 2004 I've been there. They have a kickass t-shirt that I bought, but some sonofabitch ripped off my luggage and stole the damned thing. It had some sort of bastardized periodic table on it. NICE place with good atmosphere and good food. Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!! Mayberry 0 #17 July 29, 2004 It sounds like you have all the major attractions covered!! Definitely check out the night life while you're in town as well. One question....how are you getting around?? Since I work for Metro, I'm gonna shamelessly plug them. If you're gonna go all over the area each day I suggest you buy an all day pass, it only costs 5 or 6 bucks & is good all day for unlimited travel. Also when you get to a station, go to the kiosk & pick up a pocket guide from the station manager. It lists all the major points of interest & which color line (red, blue, yellow, etc.) to take to get there. Just don't eat or drink on the train or in the station...our transit police dept. really frowns on it. There was a story in today's Post about them handcuffing & taking a woman to jail for a few hours who didn't listen & got snippy with them. Check out www.wmata.com for more info. Have a great time while you're in town!! DonDon Here's to friends!

Absolutely, that is the best info you have gotten so far. Even if you have a car it is easier to just ride the Metro and walk a few blocks here and there. Parking can be a bitch and the streets can be confusing at first. Word of warning, check the times for the last train departure from what ever station you plan on getting back home from as you could find yourself stuck and drunk with no ride. Don't ask me how I know these things...I have a friend who told me about it When in doubt ask the guy in the booth or someone on the platform for directions. Most people will help you out if you ask them. Hope you have fun."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING

lifewithoutanet 0 #20 July 30, 2004 As Anvil said further up, the Brickskellar is not to be missed. Otherwise, a little-known-about monument on the north side of Constitution, between 21st and 19th (other side of Constitution from the Vietnam Memorial) is the Einstein Monument. It's a big, bronze statue of the man, himself, with the night sky spread out on the ground in front of him. Stand at the center, with your big toes on either side of the North Star and say something to Einstein. Then step even just an inch or two to either side of the North Star and say it again. You'll know why once you've been there and done it...that's all I'll say. -C.
Mayberry 0 #21 July 30, 2004 The trains run until midnight except for Fri. & Sat., they run until 3am. Plenty of time!!! I know they also run a shuttle bus from a couple of the stations back & forth to Georgetown but I can't remember which ones right off hand. AggieDave 6 #24 July 30, 2004 You'll probably think I'm weird, but go out of your way to use the Metro. Its clean, fast and efficent, basically every time I go to DC I'm impressed. Beyond that the big memorials are really cool, such as the Jefferson, Lincon, Washington, etc. There's a newer one for FDR that's pretty bad ass, like nothing else around there, check that one out as well. Go to the wall. I can't go into the military and I wasn't around for vietnam, but I still lost it when I went to the wall. It means a lot, go there and pay respect.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
lifewithoutanet 0 #25 July 30, 2004 It's pretty geeky, but therefore damn cool, as far as I'm concerned. You will not find anything about it in the brochures at the monument, either. Enjoy, but don't ask me to reimburse your Metro fare if somehow you defy physics. -C.
