lewmonst 0 #1 July 30, 2004 Yep, it happened to me. And I consider myself smarter than the average internet user. But someone jacked my ebay account. I checked my hotmail, and found an email from ebay "Email change confirmation" or something to that effect. I went to ebay.com and was able to log in to my account (luckily they hadn't changed the password yet - morons) and found that the email on my account had been changed to eoicme@yahoo.com ??not me??) So I went through ebay's security help (no phone number btw) and was able to talk to someone on live chat. (Mind you that I was in the bombshelter and it took forever to load a page...) So finally the guy had to call the number on my ebay account, which was old, my mom's house. Since I wasn't there, he started to tell me I'd have to fax all this stuff and it would take a few days etc., but I finally got him to call my mom's house, meanwhile I called her on her cell phone and that was good enough verification for them to override the new email address and change it back to mine. So I changed all my passwords all over the place since most of them were the same... what a pain in the @ss. And the guy, from Indonesia was asking sellers questions through ebay about turntables... So i've gotten a few replies in my email about turntables and shipping to Indonesia. He even put my name at the end of the questions. Luckily my paypal account wasn't touched and he hadn't bid on anything... I still haven't figured out how it happened. I never click on anything in an email and enter personal information... so be careful - it can happen to you too. peace lewhttp://www.exitshot.com
catfishhunter 2 #2 July 30, 2004 Download eBay's Tool Bar. The account gaurd will warn you if you end up at a spoofed eBay/PayPal website. Change your passwords monthly and never have them the same. Always use numbers in your password such as 182srfun2jump...Because I am powerseller I receive 20-30 spoofed emails a month saying someone has added/changed my eBay email, my account has been locked etc and I need click the link and log in. NEVER click any links asking you to confirm/change your information. Forward all email to either spoof@ebay.com or spoof@paypal.com if it is legit they will let you know but 99.999999999 times it will be someone trying to take over your account. MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT Life is Short and we never know how long we are going to have. We must live life to the fullest EVERY DAY. Everything we do should have a greater purpose. If you followed a link from that email, you probably just gave someone your password.
