nanook 1 #5 July 31, 2004 Neil Peart. His music was the first I really wanted to learn. Plus he still matures in his playing. the test for echos album showed a remarkable advancement on his part._____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

There were several out-playing both of them then, too...Cliff Davies, John Densmore, Rick Downey, and Charlie Martin to name a few. Don"When in doubt I whip it out, I got me a rock-and-roll band. skydyvr 0 #7 July 31, 2004 Peart is clearly the best choice offered in this limited poll. . . =(_8^(1)
jimbarry 0 #8 July 31, 2004 On the poll, Bonham. Off the poll, gotta be Stewart Copeland. more than a percussionist, the guy's a MusiciaN on the kit. innovative beats, perfect timekeeper... (and i'm not even a big fan of the police)
Dougiefresh 0 #9 July 31, 2004 Listen to some jazz, you'll hear some rhythm skillz that'll put both these boys to shame... nothing against 'em, they're both good at what they do, but it takes a lot of skill to keep with Trane. Or Bird. Or Miles. Or Mingus. I could go on, but you get the picture.Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. --Douglas Adams
Zenister 0 #10 July 31, 2004 i'll agree there on somethings.. however rock (and more recently metal) drummers have been pushing the envelop on heavy pummeling double bass and its accompanied rhythms in directions the jazz greats never imagined....____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. Kris 0 #12 July 31, 2004 On the poll, Bonham. Off the poll I've gotta give it up to Stewart Copeland and Dave Grohl.Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
slotperfect 7 #14 July 31, 2004 QuoteThere were several out-playing both of them then, too...Cliff Davies, John Densmore, Rick Downey, and Charlie Martin to name a few. I saw Blue Oyster Cult in 1982 . . . caught one of Rick Downey's broken drumsticks. I had to shove it down my pants to keep people from stealing it from me. I agree that there are some incredible drummers out there . . . lots of them have been named already. I voted for Neil Peart in the poll with only two choices?!?!?!?Arrive Safely John
tunaplanet 0 #15 July 31, 2004 QuoteI voted for Neil Peart in the poll with only two choices?!?!?!? That's because they are the 2 best drummers to ever play. Period. No since in debating it. Forty-two
Mayberry 0 #16 July 31, 2004 QuoteOff the poll I've gotta give it up to Stewart Copeland and Dave Grohl. Good answers!! I've always been a big Police/Copeland fan, & is there an instrument that Dave Grohl can't play?? DonDon Here's to friends!
lawrocket 3 #17 July 31, 2004 Bonzo - best rock and roll drummer of all time. No doubt. Peart could play the drums better than Bonham. But John Henry Bonham was a better drummer. I'd also rank Keith Moon well ahead of Peart. Of couse, the best drummer ever was Buddy Rich... My wife is hotter than your wife.
towerrat 0 #18 August 1, 2004 I watched Rush play for almost 4 hours last night. The whole band was absolutely incredible.Play stupid games, win stupid prizes!
tunaplanet 0 #19 August 1, 2004 Yes they are. One of the greatest rock and roll bands of all-time. I couldn't get tickets but heard the show was fucking incredible. They always put on a great show. My buddy told me Neil Peart did his world-famous drum solo last night. Said it was absolutely amazing. I have one of his solos on my computer both in audio and video. Wish there was a way I could post the video so people could see what a God he is on the kit. Forty-two
