chachi 0 #1 August 4, 2004 are we allowed to SLIGHTLY laugh / tease skydivers that try stupid things and just don't quite make it? as in minor injuries. i was prompted to ask this becuase of a thread in the incident forum where someone hit a wall trying to land on a roof and got injured but is totally fine. to me, if you try and fail, i get to laugh a little. please read the warning below. ~chachi This is in no way intended to make fun of those that pass on, total respect and eternal blue slies to those family members. towerrat 0 #6 August 4, 2004 There's an old saying at my DZ. " If you've come for sympathy you've come to the wrong place!" If you get hurt doing something stupid at my DZ, you will be the butt of jokes until the end of your days. I should know, I got drunk and crashed a go-cart in the middle of the night. My nickname for the moment is Crash. It's all in good funPlay stupid games, win stupid prizes!
chachi 0 #7 August 4, 2004 i totally agree, some of the comments after this were, "Just to clarify so there won't be any other such insensitive posts, there is no sheet metal involved at all, it's a concrete building, and it was not his whole body that hit, it was below the knees. Does that help you stop laughing? " "Not cool" you know, learn to take a joke is all i have to say. chachi

champu 1 #10 August 4, 2004 There's nothing wrong with laughing at misfortune as long as you're laughing with your arm over their shoulder and not laughing and pointing.

bbarnhouse 0 #12 August 4, 2004 There is a difference between laughing with someone and at someone. The later isnt well done. We all know that stupidity in skydiving is painful...often times...its fatal. B2
Luna 0 #13 August 4, 2004 Listen, yeah, he did something stupid, and he's paying for it, and yes, he will be teased mercilessly by all of us. The Incidents forum is not and has never been the appropriate place for that type of thing. You want to laugh about it, bring it here. That's why there are separate forums. Respect the rules. I also don't know if I'd call 2 surgeries on a leg and six months out of the sport a "minor injury" or that he is "totally fine." But, whatever. Maybe the post Man vs. Wall helped that along, but your comments were not about the location of the post but that he was a callous prick basically. B2 just a light hearted observation is all that was made and it turned into what an ass theread that had to have posts removed, i am just wondering how most feel about having a little fun at the expense of a stunt or two. Luna 0 #20 August 5, 2004 Yes, he is going to live and make a total recovery. If that makes it a "minor injury" in your book, fine. We disagree. For the last time, as you still seem to be ignoring this enormous fact, Incidents is not the place for lighthearted joking, teasing, or laughing at someone. If that comment had been made here in Bonfire, I would not have said a word. Did you notice that your friend's comment was one of the posts removed, and did you read what the moderator put in its place? Just keep it out of the Incidents forum and everyone will be happy. bbarnhouse 0 #22 August 5, 2004 Quotei am just wondering how most feel about having a little fun at the expense of a stunt or two. Asked and answered. Remember that much is lost in the way of nuance in this medium. Having fun at someone else's expense, as I said isn't fun at all. It would be different if say I did something stupid and posted about it. Its another thing to make light of someone else's misfortune. I think thats pretty well understood. bbarnhouse 0 #25 August 5, 2004 Okay lets look at this in a different way. Incidents has rules and a guidlines for reporting. The intent is to report facts and to learn period. It is not the place to joke about anything nor a place to offer condolences. Chachi is entitled to ask for an opinion in the Bonfire as he has done. Lets say there are some that agree to disagree and leave it at that. Pixie edited to say: Chachi..you are allowed as you so put it to feel, think or laugh at anything you want. Just don't expect to get many positive responses on this line of posts
