Dougiefresh 0 #1 August 8, 2004 So yesterday I was rushing for a call, and noticed my altimeter was off by 2000 ft. Zeroed it and got on the plane. Then in freefall I realized the extra length of my helmet strap wasn't in it's holder and was slapping me in the face. When I thought about it, I realized my gear had been moved also, when I left it me helmet was hanging OVER my rig, and when I picked it up my helmet strap was UNDER my rig. Plus, I checked my altimeter and it took 4 turns to get it off by 2000 ft. And my helmet strap needed to be purposely removed from the holder, I couldn't get it to just shake loose. Which makes me suspect someone was messing with my gear. I want to chalk it up to "play a prank on the newbie, see if he notices his gear issues", but this kinda scares me. Especially after that British guy's cut risers. Guys, don't mess with other people's shit. Not cool at all. If I hadn't caught the alitmeter issue I could have been in deep doo doo. Granted, the altimeter would have read 2000 ft lower than I actually was, but this is still not funny. I'm wondering if I pissed someone off... anyone see someone messing with gear on the rig hangers at SDC yesterday?Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. --Douglas Adams
kai2k1 0 #2 August 8, 2004 QuoteSo yesterday I was rushing for a call Maybe you shouldnt "rush" so much Aren't you supposed to do a gear check before you get on the plane? There's no truer sense of flying than sky diving," Scott Cowan

mattjw916 2 #5 August 8, 2004 messing with people like that is childish AND potentially dangerous... BTW, it doesn't help when you tell n00bs that there was something wrong with a strap/helmet/jumpsuit/whatever AFTER the jump... it would be nice to mention it on the climb to altitude BEFORE they exit the plane... Dougiefresh 0 #6 August 8, 2004 I had already done several gear checks prior to having to rush... it's just I was watching a big-way and it was during that time (~20 min) that my helmet/altimeter went screwy.Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. --Douglas Adams
Stacy 0 #7 August 8, 2004 no offense, but if I walk away frm my gear, I check it when I come back. Always do a full gear check RIGHT before gearing up. A lot can happen in 20 minutes with unattended gear. __
