SpeedRacer 1 #1 August 6, 2004 hhmmm. I've been pretty sure I'm going to quit skydiving. I just have too many hobbies/interests, and this is the one that sucks up the biggest amount of time & $. also to get good at it, I'd have to devote a lotta weekends to it, and I've always got other things going on during weekends. But I still haven't been able to bring myself to put my gear up for sale. That just seems so, well, final. hmmm, what to do. I really should sell my gear, before the AAD racks up too much time on it. And it's good gear for a beginner: a PD 170, very stable & forgiving canopy. I would miss this forum if I left though. This is the most entertaining website I've found, & I've gotten to know so many people on here since 2001. RoysPlayThing 0 #2 August 6, 2004 SpeedRacer.... Do what your heart tells you... I do believe you can still hang out with us on the forums. .... You sound as if you are just putting priorities in your life in the order you feel they are needed... and there is definitely nothing at all wrong with that. _______________________________________________ My mind is like a parachute...it functions only when open. Muenkel 0 #4 August 6, 2004 Just take a break if you want. You don't have to leave the forums. You'll know with time what you really want to devote your time and money to. Good luck, _________________________________________ Chris

Once I had the time and the desire to start again, ya know, I could still go skydiving. And I got to do all that other stuff in the meantime. Do what's right. Of course, I was pretty sure I was coming back someday, so I did keep my gear, but if you're not, then sell it now -- it won't get more attractive with age Wendy W.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

Slappie 9 #7 August 6, 2004 SpeedRacer you don't have to leave the forums. I quit jumping in 02 and I'm still around. I did it, loved it, and still miss it. But, I can't afford to play right now. I'll never be a badass freeflier or even rank enough to jump on more then 4ways. I'll be able to get my knees in the breeze on ocasion though I sold my gear which in turn wasn't the smartest thing I've done. I wish now I would have held onto it. At least if I wanted to go make a jump just to get some air I could. So think about it before you actually get rid of it. Just do what you need to do. Nothing we can tell you will make the right decision for you. goose491 0 #10 August 6, 2004 Hey man, Do what you gotta do Speedy. I would hold off on selling the gear if I were you though. You may find that a decent hiatus will have you climbing walls... abscence makes the heart grow fonder and whatnot. As far as the forums go... there's no need to leave dude. There are plenty of posters here on DZ.com with 1 jump... no jumps... plenty o' jumps but none in the last decade... you will be welcome here. Anyhoo, hope you can keep yourself smiling! JRock 0 #11 August 6, 2004 I sympathize with ya. I was thinking of quitting as well.... I think I would miss it too much but I have already told myself skydiving is going to take a back seat to other things in my life.

Conundrum 1 #15 August 6, 2004 If skydiving means enough to you, you can quit your "other hobbies/ interests" to make up for the money you don't have to jump. Where there's a will, there's a way. But ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
peacefuljeffrey 0 #16 August 6, 2004 Unless you desperately need the money from the sale of the gear, I think you should keep the gear. Why don't you consider just not jumping as much? You can still enjoy skydiving without necessarily investing the concentrated effort to become a "great" skydiver. And if you just keep it at a moderate level, you could jump on one weekend a month, maybe do five to ten jumps over the weekend, and you won't lose too much skill (maybe even gain it) and you'll save money as opposed to jumping every weekend. I wouldn't leave skydiving. I don't see how someone who loves it could ever stop until and unless the love is just gone. Is that what's happened? Are you sure? JRock 0 #19 August 6, 2004 Wow.... that is ballsy comment. Maybe everyone should think like you. Different people quit for different reasons... I never would judge anyone for making that decision. Infact... a friend of mine with 10,000+ jumps just sold all of his gear... you know what... he has a reason.. and it is his right to have that reason... I decided against quitting. I love it too much to stop. The only way I would stop is if I absolutely didn't have the minimal time and money to atleast do enough jumps to stay safe. So I apologize if I sound like am I being defensive.. but people have the right to make that choice.

Nice round number.........NOT! Never been known as a quitter! --------------------- Wow.... that is ballsy comment. Maybe everyone should think like you. --------------------- Well, as a matter of fact, you're right, everyone SHOULD think like me! J/K. I quit after 1 tandem and 4 AFF jumps for 2 years and I had my reasons. IMHO skydiving is not for everyone and to be safe one should stay current. This isn't bowling that you can do once in a blue moon and have fun and be safe. When we free ourselves from the constraints of an airplane we are going to die unless we do something about it! So after all that IMO, put the gear in the closet and stay away for a while. The sky should still be there if the urge returns and if it doesn't then sell the gear and buy the t-shirt, "I was a skydiver". I know that when I was out of the sky, the sky was never out of me.
