Kennedy 0 #1 August 13, 2004 Just because I can use this thing doesn't mean I know what I'm doing. OK, so here's my computer gripe for the week. I don't know WTF happened, but at some point this week, everything on my computer reset itself. God only knows why. All my settings were scattered, my preferences poofed, and my homepage just plain hijacked to the MS site. Anyway, I think I've got everything fixed, except nothing javascript works. No smileys, no pop ups, no spell checker, no yahoo address book, no thumbnail pics working, no nothing. So I went into Tools: Internet Options, and everything says it should be working there. So ok, what else could be screwing with me? Is something else overriding MSIE settings that I don't know about? Feel free to ridicule me as much as is needed to get this thing working, just please HELP !!witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
akarunway 1 #2 August 13, 2004 I'm w/ ya bro. I loaded MS Flight Sim in mine and MS took over my computer AGAIN. Fuck Bill Gates. I'm gonna throw this fucker out the window yet. Kennedy 0 #3 August 13, 2004 The only thing I;ve loaded or changed all week is Ad Aware. To the best of my knowledge, I haven't touched anything MS is a month (windows, and IE excluded obviously, that was only use, no changes)witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

PhillyKev 0 #5 August 13, 2004 If you run Ad-Aware and just let it wipe out everything it finds, sometimes it finds good stuff. I've seen Ad-aware wipe out preferences and settings quite often.

No the program I would have sent you is a small very effective spyware remover. I designed it myself. Ever hear of Sub7? CanuckInUSA 0 #15 August 13, 2004 Which OS do you use? What about the Browser? Microsoft has many holes in their OSs and Browsers and it's possible that worms/viruses are uploaded onto your box without your knowledge. Microsoft just released Service Pack 2 for their XP OSs (which addresses some of the security holes), but you might want to consider using a different browser if you're an IE user. As to how to clean up your system after it has been infected, well there is no trivial answer. It all depends of what's changed and your knowledge of the registry settings and administration tools which comes with your OS. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
Kennedy 0 #16 August 13, 2004 XP and MSIE I dont know shit about the intricate workings of this devilspawn known as a MS OS. ps - I've had updated Norton up and running, and I check spyware, adware, etc on a fairly regular basis since before this issue.witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
