skymama 37 #1 August 14, 2004 Well, I made it through the hurricane safe and sound. I just got my power back on at 4 pm today. As you've heard, the whole central FL corridor got hit pretty badly yesterday. There are many, many trees down and the last I heard on the radio there were still 1 million residents of Florida without electricity. I also wanted to let you all know that it is hit and miss on people's cell phones working, and they are asking people not to use them at all. My calls are going straight through to voice mail and I can't retrieve them or make any calls. So for all of you that have left messages for me, I'm not ignoring you. I just can't call back! She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon

VanillaSkyGirl 6 #3 August 14, 2004 Glad to see that you posted, Andrea. I'm sure that many of us have been thinking about you. Is there anything that you need or anything that we can do for you?
skymama 37 #4 August 14, 2004 QuoteIs there anything that you need or anything that we can do for you? Thanks, Sweetie, I'm fine and all of my family is fine. Living without electricity was more of a nuisance than anything else. I went up to Deland today and found out they didn't have electricity either, but they were still sending a few plane loads up. Most people stayed away today and we just had another pretty big storm pass through again. I'm sure things will be back to normal within a day or two for most people. The storm was actually pretty cool to watch. The sky lit up in brilliant blue/green colors that I've only seen in the ocean before, not the sky! There were some palm trees in the yard of the house I was at. It was neat to watch the fronds sway slowly at first and then go horizontal from the strong winds. The rain was in a huge sheet and going horizontal too. Then the eye came over us and all movement came to an eerie halt. We had enough time to run outside and check on things before the backside of Charley came at us, this time in a different direction and not quite as hard. It was quite mesmerising to watch. It really made me think of no matter how technologically advanced we get, we are still at the mercy of Mother Nature! Hurricane season goes until November, but I hope we're done for this year! She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
Amazon 7 #5 August 14, 2004 Glad to see you are OK Andrea.... So far I have heard from my aunt in Jax beach( has a house RIGHT on the ocean...eeesh) they made it thru ok.. and my Aunt and mother in Myrtle Beach SC.. Only moms evergreen tree is leaning precariously on the fence... and one broken window( 1 block off the ocean).. Some of my cousins a bit farther down state probably took some damage but have heard nothing from them... Everytime one of these things spins up.. I have family in the way and it scares the bee geebies out of me. I have been thru far too many of them when I was a kid.. and there are WAY too many people in FL now that have never experienced this sort of devastation. Hopefully this is a wakeup call for some of them... I am amazed its not worse than it is being shown on the news. The best thing to do when one of these things is coming your way is do what the Air Force and Navy do.. RUN like hell and get your stuff out of the way if you can. Vibes to all who got hit... hang in there.

akarunway 1 #7 August 14, 2004 Welome to my home state. Ain't them hurricanes the shit? These Eartquakes in Ca. are a different story tho. I like a little warning. A 4.0 hit my house a couple weeks ago and THAT was nerveracking. I'd hate to see a BIGUNI hold it true, whate'er befall; I feel it, when I sorrow most; 'Tis better to have loved and lost Than never to have loved at all. skymama 37 #8 August 14, 2004 QuoteWelome to my home state. Ain't them hurricanes the shit? Well, thanks! My family moved here in '69 and this is the 3rd hurricane I've been through but they do seem to cause more destruction than you think they're going to. Fifteen people are dead already and the damage estimates are in the billions. akarunway 1 #9 August 15, 2004 I watched it all night on TV. All my kids are there. Sorry but when it's your time to go it's your time to go just like skydiving. Just a realistic point of view from an old manI hold it true, whate'er befall; I feel it, when I sorrow most; 'Tis better to have loved and lost Than never to have loved at all.
