what to do in chicago...

Recommended Posts

...besides skydive! the missus and meself are planning a road trip in october and will have a day or so to spend in the windy city. we'll be there on a friday morning, but want to camp and spend saturday at sdc, then we have blueman tickets for sunday evening. i've looked around online and found that they push navy pier as a touristy destination, and millenium park. we're not museum type folks, we'd rather see something a little offbeat.

any suggestions?

Too bad you don't like museums. The Art Institute, and nearby Natural History Museum downtown are awesome.
If you will be downtown, and want the high view of everything, Sears Tower top floor observation deck is great. You can also go on a boat trip up the chicago river for an interesting view of town, or a boat ride on lake michigan.

By the way, Navy Pier IMAX is showing "Adrenaline Rush" through October!

If you are north of town, the Bahai Temple (border of wilmette and evanston on the beach) at sunset is very cool!

Theres plenty of good restaurants near blueman show, that's a fun neighborhood to walk and shop....and lots of music and other bars.

Eeeh!!! Big fun!

If it's a clear day, definitely hit the Signature Room in the Hancock! It's the best view of Chicago!

There are about a billion good places to eat, so if you let people know what kind of food you like, we'll be able to help you out better!

Also, a great site: www.metromix.com They'll list all the cool events going on around the time you're going to visit!

If it's not too cold, I also suggest taking one of the architecture tours. Basically, you get on a boat, and you travel down the Chicago River while they talk about the architecture of the buildings. It's pretty neat. You can catch one of those at Navy Pier.
There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

cool! thanks for the info. i saw that adrenaline rush was playing, but i think the run ends the week before i get there, and so does the nascar one>:(. i've seen adrenaline rush it on the imax dome in ottawa (ontario, not illinois!) twice and it was very cool. i think i'd like a boat ride, and i do like architecture, so that sounds like fun. i was thinking about doing the sears tower thing, but i'll add the hancock building to the list as well. as far as food goes, pretty much anything goes. we both like asian and indian stuff, but what is chicago famous for, besides deep dish pizza?
