Stacy 0 #1 August 16, 2004 ugh. I'm moving friday. called to confirm my van reservation today. 'UMM, I dont' think we'll have anything on Friday. yeah you're in our computer but sorry. can customer service call you back?" could they not have called me before and told me this? I now have a back up booked through UHaul. Budget is cheaper, but UHaul comes across as a LOT more reliable. __

kelel01 1 #3 August 16, 2004 That reminds me of that Seinfeld bit about the rental car reservation . . . Sorry about your issues right now, but I just started laughing thinking about what he said. Kelly
kingbunky 3 #4 August 16, 2004 Jerry: I don't understand. Do you have my reservation? Car Rental Assistant: We have your reservation, we just ran out of cars. Jerry: But the reservation keeps the car here, that's why you have the reservation! Car Rental Assistant: I think I know why we have reservations. Jerry: I don't think you do. You see, you know how to *take* the reservation, you just don't know how to *hold* the reservation. And that's really the most important part of the reservation: the holding. Anybody can just take them. "Hang on a sec, the young'uns are throwin' beer cans at a golf cart." MB4252 TDS699 killing threads since 2001
Jib 0 #5 August 16, 2004 I rented a Uhaul truck that was older than I was.... Stacy 0 #6 August 16, 2004 i'm not driving it anywhere. Galen however is driving it about 350 miles, sarasota to here and back. If you can believe it, that was cheaper than a one way rental towing my car. one ways with car tows were OUTRAGEOUS! I'm sure they'll question 350 miles, but I'll just smile and bat my eyelashes, a nd tell them I got lost. __

Stacy 0 #9 August 16, 2004 there's a flat fee of like 30$ then by the miles. technically, it's a "local" rental. 350 miles is stretching local a little bit. __
tunaplanet 0 #10 August 16, 2004 There's others besides that. They have flat rates. Forty-two
caress 0 #11 August 16, 2004 THanks for that helpful bit of info Stacy considering I am moving at the end of the month and I have Budget and Penske fighting for my business. I'm waiting for Penske to call me back witha rate to compete with budget. If they come close, I'll Penske it just for the fact Penske is unlimited miles. Taylor Arizona to Blaine Washington State is a long way. I hope the rest of your move goes better. Again Thanks for the helpful info-Caress I've learned.... That being kind is more important than being right.
Stacy 0 #12 August 16, 2004 yeah, well i didnt' see many options. uhaul, ryder, budget and penske. penske won't do one round trips/local on the weekend. ryder never got back to me with a quote. I'm limited, as I have to move on the weekend and things fill fast, and it was a fairly sudden move. If you have other suggestions in the sarasota area, I'm open to hear them! __

FlyingJ 0 #17 August 17, 2004 Probably won't work for you since you need a bigger truck, but for others that are looking...If you can fit your stuff in a cargo van check out Enterprise. They have (or had) full size cargo vans for $50/day with unlimited mileage. I had a most amazing friend rent the van in Atlanta and drive to NYC to pick up me and my stuff and return to Atlanta. The clerk at Enterprise knew what we were doing and had nothing to say about it. In the end more was spent on gas than on the rental. Quite a deal considering Uhaul wanted around $1,500 minimum for a one-way. Edited: actually read thread and saw 15-17 foot truck was needed.Killing threads since 2004. RkyMtnHigh 0 #18 August 17, 2004 I used UHAUL for my roadtrip down south and within 2 hours it overheated. The repairman came and replaced the tstat and new cap on the radiator; within the next 4 hours I broke down twice in the middle of nowhere,TX with no cell reception, no gas stations, etc...I had a gallon of water in the back and had to use it to keep going..then stranded in Amarillo when the radiator cracked. Caused a 2 day delay in getting to my destination _________________________________________
Zee 0 #19 August 17, 2004 U-Haul BLOWS!!! U-Haul is easily one the most unreliable organizations on the face of this planet and I was planning on suing them after my move. First off, I made my reservation 1 month in advance. When I go to pick up my U-Haul I find that the car trailer has a cardboard license plate and the truck has a tire with no tread - none. When I asked the dumb bitch to find me a trailer with a license plate on it she said, Why? That's perfectly valid! She also said that I should take the truck and then call the repair hotline to get the tire replaced once I got on the road??? When I told her to call the hotline and get the fuckin' thing replaced before I gave her any money, she said that wasn't possible. So, I told her to take the truck and the $1500 I was going to pay for it and shove it up her ass. About 3 hours later some big-wig from U-Haul promised to hook me up and eventually they got me a truck and a trailer but I found out along the way that the breaks were bad along with various other safety equipment that had never been checked in the 12 year life span of the truck. I did contact the attorney general and found out that the list of people filing claims against U-Haul is thicker than the LA County Phone book so I just said screw the whole thing. I'll never have anything to do with those pricks again, though. Just something to consider before you end up stuck in the middle of Cookamungaville with a flat tire and blown radiator...... RkyMtnHigh 0 #20 August 17, 2004 I was hoping that they'd refund even a portion of my rental fee but they pointed out the small print which says that regardless of the breakdown or extent of repair, time delay for repairs, delay in getting to your destination, and loss of work...they are exempt of any liability or refund. Upon return, they offered me $100 for my inconvenience. I told the repairman in Amarillo that if he didn't fix that truck; that he and his buddies WILL unload and load the replacement truck! _________________________________________
Zee 0 #21 August 17, 2004 Bastards didn't offer me a dime. Even after I pointed out that the maintenance on this particular truck was over due by six months according to their own records. They do have a sticker behind the driver's seat that shows the last service performed on the vehicle. They don't give a shit, as long as they get their money. There have been so many investigative reports done on U-Haul and how lousy their maintenance practices are. They just pass on the liability to the customer. Piss poor organization. I'll go for Ryder next time, even if it is more expensive. I've just had much better experiences with them. Buyer beware, as always.
