johnnyboy 0 #1 August 19, 2004 In the late 1800's, a poor farmer was working on his farm when he heard a cry from a young boy coming from a nearby swamp. He immediately dropped was he was doing and ran to see the situation. As he arrived, he saw a young boy in the swamp on the verge of drowning. He immediately helped the boy out and saved his life. Late that night, while at home, the poor farmer heard a knock on his door. He went to see who it was and was amazed to see a rich family in a very expensive carriage in his front yard. He then saw the boy he saved clothed in expensive clothes. The father of the saved boy approached the farmer and said to him " you saved my boys life. Had you not come to his aid, he would have been dead in that swamp. I would like to offer you some payment for your help." The farmer replied, "No sir, I cannot accept payment for saving your boy's life. It was the humane thing to do, and I would hope that if my boy was in the same situation, you would have done the same." The rich man continued to offer some sort of payment for his gratitude, but the farmer kept refusing. Just then, the farmers young son came to the door to see what the commotion was all about. The rich man saw him and said to him "If you wont accept payment, at least allow me to give your son the same benefits of education my son will have." The farmer knew his son would never get educated because he could not afford to give his son an education, so he agreed. The poor farmers son went to school, and turned out to be very bright. He eventually made it to the very top medical school of that time in England, St. Mary's (i think). Years later, and I mean years, the rich mans son got sick. What saved him this time? Think for a second >>> >> > Well duh, the poor farmers son, but with what? >>> >> > Penicillin. That is what saved the rich son, had the poor farmers son never gone to med school, the son whose name is ALexander Fleming would have never been provided with the education to create Penicillin. And what was the name of the rich son? Think for a second: >>> >> > Winston Churchill. johnnyboy 0 #3 August 19, 2004 Quit downplaying all my nice moral stories!!!! Oh yeah, try this one on for size: How can you assume that my story isnt real by pulling some site off the internet to disprove it when I can argue that your evidence isnt accurate either? SInce both came from the internet, how can you say that one is more true than the other? You cant!! So, let everyone appreciate the morals behind it (them) jumpers ARE better all around people than whuffos
