lawrocket 3 #1 August 19, 2004 My mom is a first time grandmother. She came up to Fresno from LA on Monday to help with her new grandson. While she was here, she accomplished a great many wondrous things: 1) She didn't drive my wife crazy. In fact, she and my wife are great buds now. She offered assistance and knowledge to let her recognize her feelings and concerns are perfectly normal, and what to do about them. 2) She trained my little son. Sure, it sounds cruel, but she kept Conor awake during the day. This meant that he was tired at night and allowed us some sleep. It worked like a charm. 3) She gave me hints and advice on how to calm and soothe the little guy down. He's a good kid, and doesn't cry much, but she showed me how to treat the fussiness when it occurred. She taught me how to be a better daddy. 4) She made me feel like I'd done well with myself. For so long I'd wanted my mom's approval on a number of things. While I've been away for over a year, this past few days have put me closer to her than I have ever felt - the unconditional love and affection for me, my wife, and my son. Little Conor brought us together like nobody else ever has. I love you, mom. Thanks for everything you've done in this last few days. And here's a shoutout to all the good grandmothers for being such good parents to fully adult and grown kids... Parents sometimes need parenting... My wife is hotter than your wife.
