Computer geeks, need some help

Recommended Posts

Jeez, I feel like a dumbass for posting this but I could use some words of wisdom.

I'm trying to install XP SP2 on our boxes here at the bank and it keeps telling me I don't have the permissions to install it. I'm the admin, damnit!! :S

I've logged on as an admin on the network and the individual boxes, and no luck. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Wait for SP3, it will fix that problem :D:D:D.

Seriously, do you have any "customization" on your company's XP build?, maybe there's something there that SP2 is not digesting.

Could be a group policy setting disallowing installs. Or it could be NTFS permissions. Just because you're admin, doesn't mean you have rights to do everything.

Could be any number of things.

Why are you installing it anyway? I'd wait until the bugs are worked out of it, there are already mass complaints about it. Let other people be the guinnea pigs.

Additional vulnerabilities surface in SP2
In addition to weaknesses in SP2's new Windows Firewall that allow malicious code to "phone home", reprogram the firewall's rules, or turn the firewall off altogether, security researchers have discovered vulnerabilities in a newly added security feature designed to prevent the inadvertent launch of malicious e-mail attachments. While both German company Heise Security and Microsoft agree that the problems are minor, researchers predict more critical issues will emerge.

but is " The Admin" admin on the local box?

Yes, I know to check and double check that. ;) Actually one of our consultants was in today and we both spent a great deal of time on it, and are still baffled. We've put in a report to Microsoft.

Hey Ivan, looks like I HAVE found the first need of a fix for it!! B|:D

Are you the Domain admin? How are you logged in? Try logging in locally and then try to install it, if you are logged in locally do you have admin priveleges on that individual machine. If that doesnt work try it vise versa, log into the domain and try and install it. Its worth a try.
