Only they did it with airplanes (C-119's and C-130s) not helicopters. Yeah, sort of like that except the catcher was on the front of the A/C and would actually latch down on the cable and the person would then be extracted from the ground up to the A/C where they were reeled in by the crew. You can see it being done in the movie The Green Berets. I think there is also a web page dedicated to those who have actually done it floating around somewhere.
