matthewcline 0 #1 August 22, 2004 Skydive Paris of Paris TN has been tempoarary shut down by the Airport manager and Mayor of Paris TN. This has been an ongoing battle between the Mayor, his rich King Air owner friend, the Airport manager and the Owner of Skydive Paris Johnny Reyes. The FAA was summoned by the IArport managment to do a saftey inspection, the DZ was declared Safe by the Memphis FSDO Inspectors. The Airport then withdrew their permision letter. The FAA found the Airport "In non-complience" with the public access rules. The FAA then told them there will be a hearing on the matter 23 Sept. The FAA will inform the Airport that theywill lose the Federal funding they rely on so much for Aiprot improvements. Additionally the local militry may stop buying fuel as the Airport once found in non-complience will be against the military policy of equal opertunity. This recent action by the airport management has closed down the closest USPA GM DZ to Ft. Campbell KY. Making it difficult for military jumpers to find a DZ to jump at. They now only have 1 choice for a DZ within an hour of the post. It being a Non-USPA DZ makes it questionable on if a soldier is allowed to jump there (it depends on who reads the Army regulations and how they interpret them). It also reduces the chances at getting new jumpers to enter our sport as now we are with one less DZ in the region. The DZ may have only done around 300 tandems a year and had 25 to 30 students progress through the "A" license but for a single C-182 DZ that is only open on weekends it is pretty decent. Just thought you fellow skydivers would want to knowwe may have lost another DZ to "rich man" politics. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
