tigra 0 #101 August 20, 2004 Actually, John wasn't on that 10 way team. His team, TFX won the bronze in 2002, Roger's team, STL, won the gold in 1999 and 2002.

flyhi 24 #103 August 20, 2004 QuoteFederal agents said they became suspicious of the plane when it took off from an airport in Brownsville, Texas, which is on the border with Mexico. Suspicious just because it took off from an airport? Was that the only airplane to ever take off from there, or do they follow them all? I'm thinking they're not telling us everything. informant Stopped in to SDC on my way out west and had a really nice time. Wandered into Rook's office late on a Friday night when one of us had more beer than he should have. He was more cordial than I would have been. The men's room is not in his office, btw.Shit happens. cderham 0 #106 August 20, 2004 QuoteCompletely off topic, but that made me smile since I remember how good Roger was at recruiting "volunteers"! If you were in the hangar during a weather hold, there was always a good chance he'd find you and put you to work! I remember one time there was about 200 sheets of drywall that needed unloaded and carried in the hanger. Roger just walked around and said "Hey I need some help with something do you mind?" We were all like sure - no problem Roger. It was not until we got out side and seen what he needed help with did we relize we were had. Roger was good at that Chris

RevJim 0 #109 August 21, 2004 QuoteLeave him alone. He's just upset I posted an article that had SDC and something bad associated to the name (probably just a major freak of nature that it happened there though). I personally don't believe that SDC is involved with this at all - Roger probably learned his lesson and passed that on to the kids. The only reason it was posted to begin with was that some nitwits landed at SDC. I've since been told that the original two were associated with SDC at some point. One was a parttime pilot/tandem master, the other the fireworks dude. It's funny how some people you think you know, you really don't know them at all. You know, I really doubt that SDC had anything to do with this either, but am I the only one who thinks it odd that DEA agents were dispatched to SDC long before the plane arrived, and that no-one noticed them until after the planes arrived? It's your life, live it! Black helicopters in 'silent' mode maybe? anywho, chatted with a pilot friend and he said that in an attempt to divert suspicion, it's possible that they filed a flight plan with the destination being SDC. Here's another story that was in Friday's paper: August 20, 2004 Ottawa Daily Times Feds say plane crew to have been paid in pot By DAN CHURNEY, Staff Writer The two men charged with flying a planeload of marijuana into Skydive Chicago last week were to have been paid with marijuana, the federal government said. Ira J. Williams, 31, Manteno, and Gene M. Lisula, 31, Orland Park, are charged with intending to distribute marijuana, conspiracy to do the same and importing marijuana into the United States from Mexico. Williams and Lisula were arrested at about 3:50 a.m. Aug. 13, when they landed at Skydive Chicago near Dayton. They had been followed there from Texas by U.S. Customs agents in jet planes. U.S. Customs first said that about 1,000 pounds of marijuana were found in the plane, but court documents now say that the amount was 522 pounds. This amount would usually be valued at approximately $626,000. After their arrests, Williams and Lisula told agents that they met William Ivan Pardo on Aug. 12 in Brownsville, Texas. Williams and Lisula said they then went to an airport in Edinburg, Texas, about 50 miles northwest of Brownsville, where Pardo gave them the marijuana. In exchange for flying the marijuana to the Ottawa area, Williams and Lisula said they were to be paid 100 pounds of marijuana, according to court documents. This amount would be worth about $1,200. Pardo, a parachute rigger from Brownsville, was arrested in Brownsville the same day that Williams and Lisula were arrested at Skydive Chicago. The case is being prosecuted in Texas. A judge found all three men indigent and appointed public defenders to represent them. Williams said he was unemployed and owes $45,000 in credit card debt. Lisula has operated a construction business in the southern suburbs. The men are in custody in Texas.

Wow, prices have gone down THAT much? 15 years ago I recall a very dry Madison, WI, with prices averaging around $30 per 1/8 oz. Do the math. $30*8=$240 an oz. $240*16=$3840 a pound. $3840*100=$384,000 payment value. Not that I, or anoyone else I know, actually paid for any...... Benefits of managing a Taco Bell. Munchies! quade 4 #112 August 22, 2004 It doesn't even make sense in context of the article. If 552lbs = $626,000 then 1lb = $1134.058 and 100lbs = $113,405.78 Of course, these values might all be wholesale. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

They might have figured out where it was going from listening to the pilots on the radio, or something. And the agents on the ground wouldn't have wanted to be conspicuous, and scare anyone off from their capture. They would have stayed hidden until the plane landed. I'm surprised that there wasn't anyone captured on the ground with a truck, waiting to offload the cargo and move it out from the airport.
