Anyone else watching the Olympics?

Recommended Posts

Nope.

I was obviously being over the top, I like looking, she knows that, but I've got better things to look at then that, so I'd rather see swooping.

Hell, that's what the Intarweb-thingy that Al Gore invented is for...for finding pics of nekid women.:P:P

Yeah, so I'm thinkin' women's beach vollyball or watching say JP swoop.

Pretty tough choice there huh?

Now, if you can convince the IOC to put up some footage of a certain women freestylist from Eloy . . . yeah, you might have something. That gal makes me have impure thoughts.

Holy crap the commentator is a complete tool!

I know jack shit about gymnastics, although I'm very impressed with the amount of skill it takes, and I bet I could do a hell of a lot better job. Most of my commentary would be along the lines of "holy shit that looked really hard!"

When the track and field events come on, you'll probably hear some mention of Rob Howard, a classmate and friend of mine who has been a triple jumper in the last two summer olympics. He didn't make it this time. I don't know what happened to him Saturday, but Sat morning he stabbed his wife to death and later jumped from a 10th floor dormitory window. Anyway....she was the chief neurosurgery resident at UAMS, and he was a budding neurosurgeon. Blue skies to both of them. I'm grieving tonight for a friend who did a very, very fucked up thing....

LOL. Ummmm, is this the same one you showed a pic of proposing to who you claimed was super-model material?

Same one that I proposed to, same one in the pic from the proposal. The most beautiful women I've ever seen.

most definitely... always seemed strange to me that most heterosexual men would rather watch other men run, sweat and exert themselves than watch women's sports...

i love the Olympics. no where else do you find that level of dedication, training and commitment, and not for the everyday paycheck as in professional sports.. its one of the few places you can really measure how far the human race has come and how much more potential we have… and you get to watch some amazingly athletic females at the same time…

where is the downside?

I've been glued to the Olympics. I was so bummed that I missed the opening ceremonies because of the Hurricane coverage here. :( It was always my dream as a swimmer to stand on that podium at the Olympics. I'm so proud of how well the swim team is doing and it chokes me up every time I hear them play the anthem for our medalists.

On a side not, I think there is a skydiver's daughter on the US Olympic swim team. B|

Quade, while that pic is..mmm... nice, WTF was the russian water polo team smoking when they selected these suits! U-G-L-Y....

And between the tiny-bikini-bottoms and beach volley ball, and the nice hotpants of indoor VB... its all good! :D

And yea, the US commentators on ABC (its them doing the coverage, right?) are crap. Luckily, we have other sources here up north...

I will be glued to the Olympics until swimming, diving, and gymnastics are over. I feel the same way about gymnastics that some of y'all do about skydiving. B| Beyond that, I'm not very interested, but I'll peek in from time to time, epecially for the closing ceremonies. :)

Americans take gold, bronze in women's sabre
By DAVID MORDKOFF, AP Sports Writer

August 17, 2004

ATHENS, Greece (AP) -- The United States won its first fencing medals in 20 years on Tuesday, including a gold by Mariel Zagunis in the saber competition.

Zagunis beat Tan Xue of China 15-9 in the final, giving the United States two of the three medals. American Sada Jacobson won the bronze, beating Catalina Gheorghitoaia of Romania 15-7.

The United States had never won a medal in women's fencing. The last American medal in the sport was in Los Angeles in 1984, when Peter Westbrook won the bronze in men's saber.

Tan beat Jacobson 15-12 in one semifinal to reach the gold-medal match.

In the quarterfinals, Jacobson beat Leonore Perrus of France 15-11. Perrus had knocked out Sada's sister, Emily, 15-13 in the round of 16, preventing the sisters from playing each other.

``I honestly, really expected Emily to make the (final) eight. I had really thought she was going to do it. I had really prepared myself to fence her,'' Sada Jacobson said. ``I'm sorry she didn't win her bout, but when it comes down to it, it was only going to be one of us, anyway.''

In men's epee competition, Soren Thompson of San Diego upset No. 2 seed Alfredo Rota of Italy to reach the quarterfinals, where he lost to Russia's Pavel Kolobkov, the 2000 gold medalist.

Sada Jacobson trailed in the early going against Perrus, but took the lead at 4-3 and never relinquished it, defending her family pride in the process.

``I don't like anyone beating up on my little sister,'' she said with a smile.

Zagunis, of Beaverton, Ore., defeated Elena Jemayeva of Azerbaijan 15-11 to advance to the semifinals.

Sada Jacobson is ranked No. 1 in the world, and Zagunis is ranked fourth. Tan is No. 5.

With so many highly skilled fencers competing, factors beyond skill and preparation come into play.

``At this stage of the game, it's completely mental,'' Zagunis said.

Women's saber is the newest of fencing's six disciplines and is making its first appearance in the Olympics. The first world championship in women's saber was held in 1999.

Saber is the fastest of fencing's three weapons. The target area is the entire body above the bend in the hips, including the head. Unlike in foil and epee, saber fencers can score with either the tip or the edge of the blade.
