Update your Jump Numbers!

Recommended Posts

Heya all,

I'm working on some features that required me to change some of the column types in the database. Some "Text" fields have been changed to "integer" fields to allow for "greater than" and "less than" searching to be done on them.

This impacts your jump number fields, license numbers, years in sport, exit weight, canopy size, reserve size... and most other number fields.

On making the change the database tried to convert your text entries to numbers. Check your profile and make sure your data is still accurate.
For example, if your jump number entry was:

2,300+ .... this would have been changed to 2 (everything before the comma ,)
1,250 ...... same as above
800+ ..... this would have been changed to 800
A few ...... this entry would have been removed

Check your profile:

http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=user_profile;

You can enter only numbers in those fields in the future.

sigh...

I guess the laissez faire approach didn't work ;)

on a serious note, would it be worthwhile to have the # of years in sport be a system generated variable? In other words, someone puts in a Month/date combination and the system generates the years in sport?

For that matter, how about instead of updating jump#'s there's a box to input # of jumps since last update (weekend) that automatically updates total jump #'s....

give me a minute and I'll think of some more.. I'm on a roll today ;)

That would really mess me up. I really don't know how many jumps I do in a weekend. Every couple weekends I'll look at my neptune and update my profile here.

What about people who jump for 5 years, take a 2 year break and start up again.... :)

I had to ask another moderator from DeLand.

Gee, I wonder who that would be? :)

Sangiro is a busy guy. It's always easier to ask a moderator to do that kind of stuff. We usually don't delete posts upon request, which I didn't do this time either. I just edited a line out for security reasons for a member of the military.

It would be really cool if people earned titles according to amount of posts they made. Like say Newbie at first, then Enthusiast at 50 posts, maybe something like Old Hand at 300....hehe. :)
