VanillaSkyGirl 6 #27 August 18, 2004 QuoteQuoteGet the bands to take a break at midnight so the RB's can do their thing with out having to scream over the band too Actually, that's not such a great idea. You have tons of people like me who didn't really participate in that kind of stuff I remember them cutting out the music MOST nights when they were doing initiations. It was always a packed house watching those initiations...especially, when the women were topless, of course... The one night that I remember them not cutting out the music was the night when Clay was initiated. Although there was the usual crowd during all the intiations, I couldn't even tell when Clay was being initiated exactly because no one was really reacting much vocally since the band kept playing. I liked it better with no band because it was funnier to watch and hear people reacting to the initiations and singing the Mexican hat dance as the newly initiated Brothers danced their jig on the table...usually topless!!! I actually preferred last year's porta-showers to the new prison style shower room. Somebody already mentioned the free soda was missing. Last year it took a little bit of effort to find, this year I couldn't find it at all. Bring back CRW organizing. I heard an announcement for CRW on (I think) the first Saturday, and I made sure to wander through the CRW tent a couple of times a day, but I never found anybody there. Now they have an entire year to tell their friends which means next year could be worse. It seemed to me that this was the least attended convention I have been to (this was my 6th). Like Phree said - a lot that this convention offers can be found at smaller and cheaper boogies year round. The WFFC was always THE event to go to because it had options you couldn't get elsewhere. You need something to draw the crowd back and then keep the tickets at a reasonable price. The combination of the typical planes, high gate fee and regaular jump ticket prices is enough to keep people away. I think the layout could be changed better - have a vendor row where all the vendors are at - my map was lost after the first night and it took me some time to find where some vendors were hiding. Have all the entertainment in one area like it was the first year at Rantoul. The C130 bar and the hangar bar were nice ideas, you could put Boogie Nights in that area. Keep tent city for tents! The placement of the beer kept people out of the main entertainment tent and on most nights there were only a handful of people checking out the bands. Having two choppers seemed to make it hard to get the Sirkorsky into the air. A centralized message board! This way people can place their "for sale" stuff in one place for everyone to look at instead of placing it on my car (I'm still scraping the paper off my windshield after it got wet from the rain). Also - this is a place where you could list the days events. I would guess alot didn't come because they would get a week behind then have to deal with another bunch of whiney skydivers. Actually, you might see less vendors and aircraft at next years WFFC. This due to their being charged registration fees this year and less being done in the way of precoordinating things like room reservations ,etc. which were done for them the year prior. There are quite a few people upset with the way things went this year and many voiced it. Many of the food vendors barely broke even if at all when all was said and done. I know one food vendor I spoke with said she might not come back since she can't count on making any money above her expenses. The same holds true for gear vendors and aircraft as well. There was a drastic reduction in the amount of people at this years convention compared to last years. Subsequently, there were less lifts flown and less sold overall. Things I wished were better would have to be: 1. More porta potties with maintenance. Last years service on them and quantity of them was perfect. You didn't have to walk half a mile to take a leak, they were clean and they all had toilet paper in them. 2. More garbage cans and more frequent service on them. Trash was overflowing on a daily basis 3. The PA system was ineffective unless you were in front of a speaker. Otherwise it just sounded like Charlie Brown's teacher talking. They also need to look at getting a few new CD's or tapes as the ones they played are really tired. The whole 911 thing every day was not needed and got old quick. It just wasn't the right time or place for that let alone first thing every morning. 4. The sound levels on the bands needs to be controlled by someone other than the bands. Many times it was actually louder in the camping area, even inside RV's ,where all you get is the Bass. 5. Definitely a bigger wind sock or tetrahedron in the landing area. 6. Showers need to be cleaned and it wouldn't hurt if they sprung for some soap dispensers or at least a tray to place your soap on. I actually liked last years set up in that I could get to the showers relatively close to were I was most of the time and where most people are to begin with. 7. Move the beer booth back to where it was last year, it made more sense. 8. Fireworks should not be allowed, we have the 4th of July for that and no one thinks they are cool at 4 in the morning. 9. The goodie bag was weak again this year, they need to work on that big time. 10. There was no soda for the non drinkers this year, so I know they were unhappy. If Convention isn't made to be the place to be every year then even fewer people will attend in the future. Like it was said already, you can get many of the same things at smaller boogies for less and they are closer and more accommodating."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
 Prev 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 Next Page 2 of 7 Join the conversation You can post now and register later.
