Looks like this might be a pretty good lesson in wearing your seatbelt too! i read (in another version of the story) that they hit the pole and his buddy was partially ejected, then his head was taken off by the guy wire for the same pole."Hang on a sec, the young'uns are throwin' beer cans at a golf cart." Quote I know he did a horrible thing, but I really feel sorry for the guy right now. Sorry, the only person I'm feeling sorry for is Brohm's family. You would think these guys learned their lesson from pass experiences. That is the path they wanted to take, knowing what the consequences were. Lock up Hutcherson and throw away the key. One less drunk on the road that will kill. It looks like their past experiences didn't involve anything serious (anyone getting hurt). Unfortunately, lots of kids drink and drive quite a bit, and get away with it quite a bit as well. Some eventually grow out of it, some learn the hard way (DWI), and some learn the REALLY hard way (death or serious injury to themselves or others). And I'll bet a lot of kids (again, unfortunately) have seen their parents drink and drive before... For all we know, Brohm's and Hutcherson's parents might drink and drive all the time, and that may have even been where these kids got the idea that it was ok to do. (Who knows, not nearly enough information to judge what kind of people these are.) I am not defending the guy. What he did was wrong. I'm just saying he's a young person, and this is a really harsh way to learn to face reality, even though it is 100% his fault. It makes me sad for him, the families, the people who had to see the carnage, and anyone else involved... Hopefully others will learn from it... I'm sure we all know people who have driven drunk before, and this could have happened to any of them. Usually people who are as drunk as this guy was are probably too drunk to have enough reason not to drive... A very good reason to watch out for the friends who you are partying with and make sure none of them gets behind the wheel...

flyangel2 2 #33 August 30, 2004 There is enough information out there for people to know what drinking and driving will do to them. Still don't feel sorry for him. Yes, I wasn't drinking and driving that night. I will always stay were I was drinking, or not drink if I know I have to drive. That picture came from one wild night that turned into the best slumber party with great friends.May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. I definitely don't care at all whether his parents didn't hug him enough. He's 21, and responsible for his own actions, even if his parents were astounding drunk drivers. None of that matters. He killed his friend. His friend contributed to his death by being drunk. The fault lies with the two of them, and no one else. If someone were to defend this buffoon by citing the actions of parents and "everybody had done it" it would be really wrong. At 18, just about everywhere, you gotta be ready to be responsible for your actions. Pointing at what others have done, and continue to do, is really no defense. Shotgun 1 #36 August 31, 2004 Quote The fault lies with the two of them, and no one else. I didn't say it was anyone else's fault, and I'm not defending his actions. He absolutely deserves to be punished and to spend time in jail. That being said, I can still have sympathy for him; I'm not asking anyone else to. The main point I was trying to make is that this is something we should all learn from, whether that means not drinking and driving yourself, or keeping your friends from drinking and driving. (Edited because I thought my reference to another accident was inappropriate.)
