Normally, I get drowsy. I think it's a combo of the heat, the close quarters, and the fact that I'm a chain smoker and I'm just not getting enough O2 :)
I did notice that I didn't have that problem in the Mullens King Air
I am not the man. But the man knows my name...and he's worried

I would also be careful of carbon monoxide poisoning. You might want to get a detector and put it in the plane just in case you have some sort of leak. Being sleepy on the way to doing something very dangerous is NOT a good combination.

It can be a combination of also sitting position in the plane where you are not breathing deeply and thus not getting oxygen like you should. You could be excited (fight or flight) too soon and using up the oxygen you have in your blood. You could be a smoker and thus being at altitude longer the effects of thinner air will hit you more than a fast climbing jump plane.

lol i was on a lift in a 182 not so long ago and a mate of mine was asleep before we got to 800ft then did just that woke at 5000 checked alti then head dropped again till 9500ft.

Last time i fell asleep on a 182, i woke up when the engine block cracked and we had to make an emergency exit. What a way to wake up.

I definitely get tired before my jump and the way to altitude. I have been going out to the dz EARLY because my ride works out there and he has to been there super-early. I have been really tired lately and I don't think it's too wise to be jumping tired...
but when that door opens on jump run my urge to pee and fall asleep completely disappear! :D

In the past I would get sleepy... and now I only get sleepy if I let myself get sleepy. :S (It's the heat...)
I tend to run the dive through my head on the way to altitude, making sure I note all of the *small* things I want to notice on the dive.

I tend to perform better in the air when I'm irritated on the way to altitude as well... Don't know why but I do... :S

Shove charcoal up their ass. I hear it's supposed to absorb odors. Worth a try. :D

Can't borrow works $1000 gas monitor to bring out to the dz, but if you smell otter exaust(mmm) on the way up is that enough to warrant a check to see if we are getting some in somehow? Or is it like natural gas and mercaptin(sp) You smell it at a low PPM level, but it takes a much higher level above that in which you smell to be harmful? Just a thought.
While typing this I got the strange feeling that the CO detector comments was aimed at cessna's instead of otters. B/C otters engines are on the wings instead of a cessnas engine separated from the structure only by a firewall.:$
