chaoskitty 0 #1 August 28, 2004 Went to see John Mayer tonight at a large venue. Was pretty damn disappointed. Maroon 5 opened, and they had a lot more energy than JM. I enjoyed Maroon 5 even though they're a little too "pop" for my taste. JM looked exhausted and sounded just OK. I think he is an incredibly talented musician and will continue to listen to him, but I think thats the last time I'll go see him live in a large venue. Maybe he was just having an 'off' night. But you really can't afford this when playing to 2500 people. Cause then they'll get disappointed and go on dz.com and talk about it.. last few concerts I've seen that were good or great.. Widespread Panic.. holy crap they were incredible! David Gray.. very talented.. very good show.. Pat Green.. great show! great energy! great crowd! Gary Allan.. like him a lot but I was too drunk .. hey man it was a free show.. I go to concerts all the time but thats all I can think of right now. Point is.. John Mayer was a disappointment and that disaapointed me..
SarahC07 0 #2 August 28, 2004 Not to spread any crap ... but I've heard from a friend that John Mayer has a habit of going on stage under the influence of something... wether it be alcohol or something else... She saw him live awhile back as well and was also extremely disappointed....

However he has this terrible habit of making weird faces while he is playing. He looked like a total goofball, not that there weren't a pile of girls drooling over him still. FlyingJ 0 #6 August 28, 2004 I was given a handful of tickets for his concert in Atlanta tomorrow (Sunday) and thought about going but decided to give them to my sister instead. Guess I'm glad I did! She is a huge fan though, so hopefully she won't be dissapointed. Had a bad experience with Mayer being a pain in the ass a few months ago. Planning a fundraising concert in NYC, we had a great lineup but wanted one more person. Bob Dylan was on the program, and we thought Mayer would be great to attract a younger crowd. He was totally into it until he found out that Dylan was on the program. Apparently he gets compared to Dylan a lot (????) and doesn't like it so he decided against playing the gig because he didn't want to be on stage with him. WTF!!! How about putting the fragile little ego aside to help raise some money!Killing threads since 2004.

tunaplanet 0 #9 August 28, 2004 Nothing beats a good ole fashioned Gwar concert. Such a talented band. Ok, I couldn't even say that with a straight face. Forty-two

Agreed that they are nothing special. They were proactive with the crowd and made an effort to entertain. JM looked like he wanted to tell us all to go fuck ourselves. Good call on giving the tix to your sister, J. Although Atlanta is the last show on his tour, so he may pull his head out of his ass and do a good job. I'm gonna go look for the show review in the paper.

Still thinking about asking for another ticket and going myself, but I kind of doubt it, especially since the weather is supposed to be crappy tomorrow night!Killing threads since 2004. cloudseeker2001 0 #15 August 29, 2004 I cannot stand this guy and he is a total rip off. And if he covers another SRV song, I will kill him myself. But, you are right on about Panic! They kick ass! FlyingJ 0 #16 August 30, 2004 Just got a phone message and it turns out my sister went to the show and loved it. I'm glad I gave her the tickets, because even though it turns out it didn't rain downtown, the lightning and thunder loud enough to make the windows shake at home would have kept me firmly planted on the couch if I had been the one going.Killing threads since 2004. yoink 321 #17 September 1, 2004 yeah... we were dissapointed when he came to the UK. Tiny venue - it should have been brilliant, but was a massive let down. Room for Squares is still an awesome album though. last good live gig? umm... a long time ago...
