SkydivingNurse 0 #1 September 1, 2004 It's been a while since I've visited this wonderful site, and it's been even longer since I've jumped. I almost wish I could say that I've been injured and couldn't jump, but the painful truth is that I have been in recovery from a problem with drugs. After my Dad passed away, I began to have serious problems sleeping. I started taking a benadryl or two to help, and before I knew it I was taking demerol. I had isolated myself from everything and everyone and never talked to anyone about what I was going through. I kick myself in the ass when I think that a few conversations might have stopped me from going down the road of drug abuse. I took a few months off of work, went to rehab, and have now been clean and sober for 1 year. Life is starting to be beautiful once again, and I'm actually saving a lot of money by not going to bars and such. I hope to get in a jump before the year ends, I'll probably do a tandem, and maybe start AFF over next spring. I've never met anyone on this site in real life, but I feel like I know a lot of you and feel a certain amount of friendship to the skydiving community. I have missed this site, and have really missed all the great people at Skydive PA and look forward to getting in the air again. Who knows, maybe with all the money I'm saving, I can finally afford that G4 I'm so in love with.

PurpleWill 1 #4 September 1, 2004 Congratulations and good luck. Skydiving should help along your self-esteem and give you something to make your live fun and rewarding. Just always remember your real mistake was not the drugs and the solution is not skydiving. You have to keep dealing with the stuff that bothers you when it bothers you. Posting to DZ.com is a good idea; just remember you are talking to fallible human beings that can give flawed advice. That said, I hope you get back up there soon! There is a lot of stuff worth doing but then there is a lot of stuff worth doing instead.
