SkydiveNFlorida 0 #1 September 1, 2004 :( I had my impacted wisdom teeth removed last Thursday from my lower jaw. I'm still in so much pain and the Dr. said that is normal. How long will it last? I've never been in so much pain in my life. Tramadol isn't working anymore and I can't take codine without vomitting. I'm also getting mighty sick of Cream of Wheat. Waahhhh. Angela. Jib 0 #2 September 1, 2004 It varies from person to person. I didn't have much pain although a piece of tooth worked its way out about a month later. You may want to ask the doctor for better drugs or to have a look. On the other hand, you could have hurricane ESP. -------------------------------------------------- the depth of his depravity sickens me. -- Jerry Falwell, People v. SkydiveNFlorida 0 #4 September 1, 2004 I went back to the surgeon yesterday, they treated me like a big baby for coming back. He said, of course i'm in pain, and that it looks fine. :( All the good drugs have codine and make me sick:( Hurricane ESP, huh? I doubt that, but it certainly is another thing on the plate here. I live on US1, but on the west side and my windows face west... so, do I stay home and (hopefully) comfy, or do I evacuate and stay with family who will cause more than my tooth to ache? Damned if you do, damned if you don't. .. I think that's the saying. *sigh*. Angela.
SkydiveNFlorida 0 #5 September 1, 2004 Oh, no you don't! You'll get them, everyone must go through this torture!! Man, doesn't anyone else have horror stories, and the subsequent relief stories, about their wisdom teeth? Angela.

skydiverbc 0 #7 September 1, 2004 do you have dry socket?
SkydiveNFlorida 0 #8 September 1, 2004 Quotedo you have dry socket? I would think the guy would have told me if that were the case, so I don't think so. I don't smoke or anything. How would I know?? -A
Shotgun 1 #9 September 1, 2004 I had my wisdom teeth out through a research study that was testing the effectiveness of Aleve (naproxen sodium). After having all four teeth cut out, I had to sit in a monitored room for a few hours, wasn't allowed to put ice on my face, and wasn't allowed to have any painkillers other than Aleve. Luckily, it worked pretty well... So that might be something worth trying??? Sorry to hear you're in so much pain! (Oh, and I lived on mashed potatos and jello for about a week after I had mine out.) FrogNog 1 #10 September 1, 2004 As soon as I heard the details about what they might have to do to me for the impacted one, I opted for general anesthesia. They knocked me out, I remember pure blackness for 5 minutes, then I woke up. The monster white meds they had me on kept me knocked out for most of a week; my mom funneled gruel and odwalla into my stomach whenever I woke up to go to the bathroom, and used a camomille teabag to staunch a site that wouldn't stop bleeding. Worst thing was the suture ache for about 2 or 3 weeks after that, but eventually it got better.
Frenchy68 0 #11 September 2, 2004 Hey, it's a great way to stock up on potent pain killers and share with your friends I went total anesthesia, and the pain was gone within a week. I was 16. SkydiveNFlorida 0 #12 September 2, 2004 Wow! Unfortunatly, I can't take Aleve, it makes my stomach ulcers flare up... along with Ibuprophen. . I'm pretty much stuck with the pain since Tramadol has stopped working, and I doubt they will prescribe me morphine. Yeah, I suppose I could've stocked up on pain meds for friends... but i've seen too many people get sick with overdose, so I tend to not share such things anymore. I wish I could have taken a week off, work sux when you're in pain. I am feeling a little better right now, I took whatever was in the first aid kit and it calms the pain down a little. I just went to get some... guess what/?... soup My boss just told me the teabag thing, so i'm chilling some lipton bags as we speak. Thanks all! Wish my pain away when you wish the hurricane away, ok? That way I can go jump soon... because i've already found out jumping on pain meds is really not good. Angela. Jib 0 #13 September 2, 2004 I think the doctor stuffed the sockets with clove oiled something. Try clove oil to numb it a little too. -------------------------------------------------- the depth of his depravity sickens me. -- Jerry Falwell, People v. I'll have to see if they have that at Walgreens tomorrow. Thanks! -A
skygrl70 0 #15 September 2, 2004 Hey there. Sorry you're in so much pain!! I've been in the biz for 11 years now. It really sounds like dry socket to me. Did an OS take it out or your general do it?? If an OS did, I'd go to your general Dr and have him check it out. You said you didn't smoke..did they tell you also not to drink through straws? I wouldn't torture yourself w/those teabags. They do nothing for the pain, they only help stop bleeding. Can't remember if you mentioned any antibodics, but that wouldn't hurt a bit. Hope you get to feeling better. You guys down there have enough to worry about!!

If i'm still in pain on Monday after the storm is over, i'll go ahead and call my Gen Dentist. I am also on amoxicillin, but I started it a day late, I hope that didn't have anything to do with it. Thanks for the well wishes, if you can think of anything else I can do, don't hesitate to mention it. I'm all ears! [well, ears and painful jaw] Angela. SarahC07 0 #17 September 2, 2004 I'm sorry to hear you are in so much pain. I had all 4 of my impacted wisdom teeth taken out over the summer and my face was swollen for 4-5 days. The gauze is coated in some sort of ointment and it's normal. It's tastes yummy, huh? Heh, do you like starbucks? Eat the frappuchinos with a spoon. And rice is easy to eat as well. I don't remember being in any severe amounts of pain after about a week.... until a few days later when I had a small pocket filled with fluid in one of the sockets that the doc had to cut and drain. Good luck and get lots of rest. I know how horrible you must feel...
Shotgun 1 #18 September 2, 2004 I was awake when I had mine done, but I was sort of "out of it" ;-) They had told me that I could bring a CD, but I forgot to bring one... so they were playing Beethoven loudly in the background... It was very trippy and Clockwork Orange-ish. The sound of the drill or saw, or whatever it was, mixed with Beethoven... made for a very interesting soundtrack... jazzjumper 0 #19 September 2, 2004 Angi, I would ask the doc/dentist to place eugenol soaked gauze in there. That usually helps the dry socket and relieves the pain (pretty much instantly.) They can do that ever day or so and you'll be good until good clots form. Hopefully you are avoiding drinking things through straws and such as well. No matter how good she looks, someone, somewhere is sick of her shit!
skygrl70 0 #20 September 2, 2004 You're welcome. The only other thing I could really think of, other than a few vodka and tonics would be what Jib already mentioned about the clove oil. Good luck to you!!(with everything)
SkydiveNFlorida 0 #21 September 2, 2004 Man, I was just reading about this dry socket thing, this is serious stuff! I'm scared now, what if the pain stays for a long time? :( I am going to call my real dentist tomorrow and ask if I can come for a 2nd opinion/possible treatment. I don't know if they'll be opened because of the hurricane, but it's worth a shot. I have a feeling that this is what I have as well after reading about it. Apparently, women are more susceptible than men, and it's more likely in women on birth control. Great. :( Angela.

ChasingBlueSky 0 #23 September 2, 2004 I was in searing pain before mine came out - the infection had spread. The infection pain subsided within a week of them coming out, the surgery pain lasted about a week as well - esp the sore muscles. I had them out on a Friday and was back to work on Tuesday. If the pain is that bad, take it easy on eating and stay with the SlimFast, water, pudding, etc. I waited well over a week before trying to eat any food._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... SkydiveNFlorida 0 #24 September 2, 2004 Well, it'll be a week tomorrow. I am going to try to find clove oil and hope for the best until the doctors are opened up next Tuesday. Hopefully I will feel better by then and won't need one. I doubt the doctors will see me tomorrow with the hurricane on the way. I know how you feel with the infections. My left side was getting infected on and off for over a year before I finally decided to do this. I've already been eating foods, ravioli, soft stuff. I'm making pudding tomorrow:) Thanks! ChasingBlueSky 0 #25 September 2, 2004 Maybe you went to food too quick? Don't forget that the jaw muscles are sore and irritated from the infection and surgery. By using them to chew you could be increasing the pain. Give your jaw a rest, ice it up when it hurts and stick to liquids and stuff you don't have to chew._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me....
