RevJim 0 #1 August 31, 2004 Credits (Get your mind outta the gutter, Sunny! ) Yep, that's my final courseload this semester. It's gonna be rough, but I live for a challenge! Add to that the fact that a 2.75 minimum GPA is state required to teach. Yea, right. It's competetive here. This school has a grand total of 50 seats open each semester for elementary education, and the average GPA of those that made the cut last semester was 3.47. Fun. Biology 101 (5 credits) Art Appreciation 160 (3 credits) Human Geography 120 (3 credits) Psychology 110 (3 credits) Communication 101 (2 credits) Wellness 123 (1 credit) At least I tested out of 6 credits of math courses and 6 credits of english courses. Pretty impressive to me, considering the last formal class I took was 15 years ago. 12 credits I don't have to take means a semester earlier graduation. Nerves are a cool, wonderful, AWFUL thing! I'm currently taking 26 credits... but that's with the weird credit system the Aussies use down here for my semester abroad. In actuality it transfers back to about 18 credit hours in the states... which still sucks! But on the bright side of things, only my credits transfer back home and the grades don't matter Congrats on going back, Jim!

flyangel2 2 #10 September 1, 2004 Yesterday was the first day of school for my son. He is attending the same college that I work at, and was keeping his fingers crossed that I wouldn't be in or near any of his classes for my deaf clients. But little does he know, I know all the teachers and can check up on his grades Poor kid, His dad and I even worked at his elementary school.May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. Well, good luck, Rev. I have to wonder, and I wonder if anyone else wonders, if taking on a huge course load with lots of attendant reading and studying for each course is detrimental in terms of how much one retains of what is taught/learned, and even how much of the required reading one is actually able to get accomplished? I think there is such a thing as trying to learn too much in a given period. Would anyone really want to learn to play guitar, fly, skydive, scuba dive, and knit all in the same period of three months? How well would you learn any one of those things if you were spread so thin? --Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
