champu 1 #2 September 2, 2004 there's actually a really easy way to track e-mail. embed a 1x1 pixel transparent gif at the bottom of the e-mail, store the image on your webserver and collect the hit information. In fact, you could even take the person's e-mail address and send it as a GET variable to the "image" which could also contain a script used to log/harvest e-mail addresses... of course, most bright people would set up their e-mail client not to allow embedded images to be downloaded from outside sites. and the particularly savvy probably don't even allow html in their e-mail at all. then again, we are talking about jackasses that propagate chain letters...
