Another Hurricane in the Making?

Recommended Posts

It's hard to tell from that far out. A storm like that rolls off the coast/islands about once a week during these months...some never form into anything strong.

If you look at the history of huricanes from that spot, a good portion of them turn north before they approach the US or the Islands. If you go back about 4 days you will see that another storm rolled off with that one and went almost NW and just dissapated. Somewhere on the NHC website they have a history graph for that region.

However, the report on that one looks like it will form into a hurricane - at least it has the classical signs of it. But it may never make it to the US Coast line.

Did you know there was a hurricane in the Pacific off the coast of Baja?

Two months ago I was supposed to have moved to either the Keys or Miami, but funding for the reason I was going fell through. Was upset about ending up in Atlanta with family, but now I'm thinking maybe a delay of a few months wasn't so bad afterall!

I'm really ignorant about hurricanes, but I'm headed to TX (Austin) in about 10 days. Is there any chance that a hurricane will go there while I'm there? The way my luck has been running, I have no idea what to think.

I know hurricanes hit TX, but I was wondering if anyone knew anything this far in advance...

And yes, CBS, *I* knew there was a hurricane off the Pacific coast...lol...

Austin?

By the time a hurricane makes it to Austin, the only thing you have to worry about is the rain washing out all of the freaks from their hiding places.

Two hurricanes have passed through my part of TX since I moved to College Station, both were nothing more then just solid thunderstorms by the time they made it this far inland.

So you're gonna be in TX? Think you'll have the time and ability to sneak away? I'm not sure I'll be able to go to Austin (90 minutes away), depends on school and what day.

Latest news from the IPC :|

NEWSFLASH:

Due to extensive damage caused by Hurricane Charley on 13 August to the Florida Skydiving Center, the United States Parachute Association, in cooperation with the host, has asked permission from the IPC to postpone the 2nd World Cup of Canopy Piloting (Lake Wales, Florida) until 7-13 February 2005. Moving the event to another location is not an option. When the decision is reached, all NACs and IPC delegates will be notified.

Maybe we can just skip September and go directly to October. I think that's a good idea.

Then maybe you should join my pressure group from back when I was at collage. We've been campaiging for years now for the abolition of both September and October and the institution of one super month - Septober.

(We'd be in it now if it wern't for those pesky kids!)

I don't think I can sneak away. I tried to get them to let me fly out a day early, and maybe get a jump or two in, but no, that's not feasible. So I'm literally landing Monday afternoon, in seminar Tuesday all day and Wednesday all day, and then fly home on Wednesday immediately following the close of the seminar. And I won't have a car, either. So the only possibility would be Monday night for dinner, but I can't even play hard because of the seminar starting right at 8...and it's a new company, so showing up with a hang-over probably would not make a good impression.

LOL!

And I hope this new hurricane doesn't develop into a Cat 4, just because everyone needs a bit of a break. But a good thunderstorm would be wonderful to be in (we don't get those in CA....)

Thanks for the reassurance, guys.

that area Jib was talking about is now Tropical Storm Ivan. Ivan is predicted to become another cat4 in just a few days according to NOAA.

IVAN!!!! take care of this!

Wow. how much does this suck?

The strong tropical wave in the eastern Atlantic near the Cape Verde islands has become Tropical Storm Ivan. As of 5 am AST Tropical Storm Ivan was located near 10.0 north and 30.7 west or about 610 miles southwest of the Cape Verde Islands. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph and the depression is moving west near 16 mph. Current forecast tracks by model output show this system tracking nearly due west for the next several days then turning northwest. Some longer range model output is suggesting this system will move into Hispaniola late next week then into the Bahamas next weekend. Until this system develops further this is mostly speculation. But it is possible another tropical cyclone could threaten the southeast U.S. in about 10 days.
