motorcycle builder and legend Indian Larry

Recommended Posts

Was killed yesterday after a bike stunt. He was one of the true bike builders of our time. RIP Larry.

Indian Larry's inspiration was 50's - 60's motorcycle clubs, Ed "Big Daddy" Roth and the legendary, Von Dutch. The skilled machinist, metal-sculptor and master motorcycle mechanic won countless custom shows, participated in motorcycle racing, and originated the hard-core motorcycle style - a blend between classic choppers and hotrod race bikes. Indian Larry's resume includes movie, video, television, and magazine spreads. His eccentric nature combined with a unique and colorful appeal has gathered great interest from media, producing a fanatic fan base. Larry can be found around beautiful women, tattoos, motorcycles, and the Coney Island Polar Bear Club.

It was after the bike build off in the Carolinas yesterday afternoon...

So sorry to hear this!

I have a patient who loves, owns and rides Indian bikes. (He lost his leg when a motorist side swiped him...thus he is a patient of mine right now).

His goal is to be back on his bike and ride like he used to. This news will touch him deeply.

Thanks for posting.

His bikes were amazing! His classic style was still a winner even now adays. I watched him do some stunts on one of the Discovery channel shows, laying down on the seat, standing on the seat ect.. He never had a helmet on, or any gear for that matter. Somebody like that, with years on top of YEARS of experience who has done those stunts so many times I'm sure it was like second nature.

That sucks ass plain and simple. Indian Larry was my favorite builder. No one built bikes with heart and soul quite like him. One of the last bunch of true outlaws and originals. He's irreplacable.

R.I.P. Larry. Ride free forever.

I'm not judging him, I'm judging what he did. I like Indian Larry and his work as much as the next guy. Riding a motorcycle or stunting one, without a helmet is not smart, I don't care who you are or how long you've been doing it. His 50 years experience did not make him perfect... obviously.

We Got Over Stuff, You Need Closure . . .

It’s very interesting how things change from one generation to the next. My theory (very general and not a slam) is that we are more alike than not.

We are cool and you are sick. We changed the sport of skydiving with relative work, and you did the same with free flying. We grew our hair long and you pierced your belly buttons. We wore tight bell bottoms and hip huggers and you wear baggies and let your drawers show. We didn’t respect our elders and neither do you. We shocked our parents with Rock & Roll and you did the same with Hip Hop.

But there are some big differences too, and I think it’s in the way our generations were raised. We being brought up in a 1950s and 60s mentality and you in a 1970s and 80’s mentality. Our parents were all cookie cutouts of the same type (think Ward and June Clever) while yours all had different ideas and methods of raising their children. We had a common enemy, in our parents, to rebel against. Your parents being the free thinkers they were gave you no common enemy. (How can you rebel against the rebellion?)

Yet, you did find some ways. To my generation your arguing for helmets, or the “just say no,” campaign, or being so pro-war makes us cringe. You sound like our parents!

When you call someone “stupid” for not wearing a helmet are you so against free will and freedom because it’s all you have to rebel against? Is all this because your generation was raised with too much freedom?

No, the real problem is your generation was raised by my generation . . .

Oh, and can we drop the, “he died doing what he loved,” bit. Nobody wants to die doing anything whether they loved it or not, and it’s only a hollow sounding comfort to you the still living.

Sweet dreams Larry, you were a true freedom fighter.

Nick :)BASE 194
