freeflir29 0 #26 September 6, 2004 QuoteSome of us have the added issue of being busty And you know how we ALL hate that! At SD Atlanta they had 1 rig specifically for small chicks. It had an Omega 170 I think. Small rig that even fit the 90 pound Asian girl that came in. I know it's tough for DZ's, especially small ones, to have a WIDE variety of rig sizes but I guess this emphasizes the importance of it. We all learn........... tspillers 0 #27 September 6, 2004 I agree with you. That is why we have a 300 down to a 150 for students. The 150 would not have worked here. We used a rig a little below a 1:1 loading. We are a 182 DZ and have multiple sized rigs and conpies. She was not an easy fit to a rig and that makes it more difficult. Wingloading is still more important than comfort. I am not totally useless, I can be used as a bad example.
AggieDave 6 #28 September 6, 2004 Quoteto have a WIDE variety of rig sizes but I guess this emphasizes the importance of it. We all learn........... SD Aggieland has smaller rigs as well, there's a rig that my fiance jumps and jumped for most of her student progression. She's 5'1", a faily little women (but damned sexy!), it fits her pretty well, although its just a hair large in the MLW. The problem is that the largest main it fits is a Spectre 150. As a general rule of thumb, DZs tend to have the containers that hold the larger sized canopies have larger sized harnesses. Unfotunately, that rule of thumb isn't always what is needed. It is a bit cost prohibative to have the perfect rig for every student, but DZs try to get it close. The AFF-Is at the DZ have a couple of ideas to help Moody out for her next jump, I'm sure her next jump will have a more successful main canopy ride then the last.EDIT: Looks like Todd got his post sent away while I was typing mine out...--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." I HATE the owners of ASC.......but......they have had some of the nicest student gear I have ever seen. At least last time I was there. Much better than the one time I rented gear there. Lets face it......the DZ business is a balancing act. Between Rental gear (Probably the lowest priority), Tandem gear (The MOST used and therefor the highest priority for gear), and then you have the plane and facilities. Can't exactly go "cheap" on ANY of that.

Yep.....then lets not forget about all the other stuff that "We" jumpers demand like TV's to debrief jumps, editing equipment for tandem videos, computers for accounting and manifest, couches for drunk skydivers to sleep on, advertising. BTW....what dumbass would own a a DZ anyway?
moodyskydiver 0 #32 September 6, 2004 Unfortunately in my situation being "too small" to fit big student gear wasnt the issue. It was quite the reverse. Those who have met me know I'm not petite in any sense of the word. This weekend's adventures have proven to me just how out of shape and over weight I've become and its something I'm going to have to deal with.I've talked to Todd about my options to continue jumping the student gear.We can make a few gear adjustments and see how that goes or I can lose weight...thats about it. The Aggies have been more than accommodating for me and I appreciate it immensely.I can stand to be uncomfortable in a rig if it gets me into the air,but I'm not going to have issues w/gear that are bad enough to cause safety problems.I'll work with them and test our current options, but if it comes down to it, that I need to buy something custom, then I will. "...just an earthbound misfit, I."
bobsled92 0 #33 September 6, 2004 It's great to hear that you will be persistent in theses matters. Maybe we can jump together at Rantoul next year. Your drive and motivation will get you to a "B" lic. no problem at all. -Grant_______________________________ If I could be a Super Hero, I chose to be: "GRANT-A-CLAUS". and work 365 days a Year. http://www.hangout.no/speednews/
Amazon 7 #34 September 6, 2004 Not to worry Amber. I was voicing a common problem for many shorter women. I know what its like to jump ill fitting gear.. and I have seen way too many female students in gear that was just not structured well for those of us who have a bust. The student gear I used when I came back to skydiving last year bruised me badly and dam near ripped off my breasts..or at least they felt that way on every jump. I am not exactly what you would call a little woman but I too bruise if the rig is ill fitting. I also know that FLying Squirrel had major issues with stability when she started just because the rigs were too long for her and she could not arch properly. I have seen others who had the leg straps that were too large for them, on opening make for them being too low in the harness and as you found.. radios have an unpleasant taste to them and the toggle can be nearly out of reach( or in your case out of reach). The very custom harness on both the rigs I had made for me have a low chest strap..I added some pictures to the chesty thread back when we were discussing large breasts in the womens forum.... no gnawing on the chest strap when I am under canopy thanks.. and I always tighten my WIDE leg straps fairly tight.. which.. since I freefly and speed dive is a good idea anyway.. they do not move around on me. As far as getting into shape.. WOO HOO.. good on you... Before I started jumping again I lost 30 pounds before I started and continued all last year.. and it helped me immensely.. I feel better and really do need to get in even better shape. I am still sore from my weekend of fun going really fast in Jumptown last weekend. I should know better than do stuff like this at my age.. but.. oh well I am doing what I want to do.. and no one can tell me otherwise now.... and this second childhood thing is kinda fun.
