Guest #1 September 6, 2004 Hello, everyone... Just wondering if anybody here experiments with POV-Ray and/or Beowulf. Seems I'm in a position to have enough Intel P-IIIs to build a functional Beowulf cluster and do some serious 3D rendering (I'm just waiting on an 8-port 10/100 switch). Have a look at my attachment. What I've done is rendered the text of my name in marble above a plain, with a reflective silver ball between the characters......please note that the resolution has been significantly reduced for attachment purposes. I'd like to know if anybody else does this sort of thing, and what your results have been. BTW - Beowulf isn't the future of desktop computing (pay close attention, Ivan). If you want to see the future of desktop computing hardware, have a look at Orion Multisystems. You don't know their name yet, but you will. Please remember that you read it here first. mh . ScottishJohn 25 #2 September 6, 2004 I did a Beowulf Admin course a couple of years ago and they showed an example of benchmarking the cluster usingb PVMPOV. It was quite a good visual example of the difference between running on 1 cpu or 4,8,16 cpu's. I have access to a 56 node beowulf cluster but don't have enough time to play on it. Although if I wanted real power I ould use our NEC SX6 Super Computer.---------------------------------------------------------------------- If you think my attitude stinks you should smell my fingers
CrazyIvan 0 #3 September 6, 2004 A friend of mine if very good with Linux, but we are procastinating and never put a Beowulf together, maybe someday. __________________________________________ Blue Skies and May the Force be with you.
MikeMcLean 0 #4 September 9, 2004 You've been reading too much slashdot. Seriously, do you have a business plan for that?It wouldn't hurt you to think like a fucking serial killer every once in a while - just for the sake of prevention
