This just sucks! I was supposed to do my first birdman jump in sebastian this weekend.

My house is ready and now I guess I'm headed to the family's for a wild weekend of cards & book-reading. WOOH-HOO!

I understand the "hurricane party" mentality that many people in Florida have, and why they have it....but this isn't one to play with. Body bags will pile up if this one isn't treated seriously.

We are taking this seriously - We only start the party until we're all locked in the boarded up house and there's nothing to do for 36 hours. It's that or go stir crazy... DUH!!

When I was a kid, we realized that there would be no school the next day. Also, the lights would eventually go out.

If it came at night, we'd walk around the house with candles and goof around.

If it came during the day, we'd wait until the eye passed over. You knew you had 30 minutes of calm, so we'd ride around on bikes outside and then hustle back in.

Keeping a bunch of kids inside for hours is a recipe for craziness.

Hey for all of you who want to protect your rigs from possible water damage, a friend of mine just told me to stick it in the dryer because they're pretty water-proof. I thought that was a great idea!

I'm going crazy in my boarded up house. The walls are closing in on me, I can't stand not being able to see the sky. I must start drinking. :P

So this morning we had a pipe bust in the kitchen. Five hours later we have a plumber/electrician on the way, ten blowers (don't get me started) and three dehumidifiers running, thanks to the water salvage company. It sounds like a windtunnel in here and I'm thinking... hm... if I pointed all the blowers in the same direction... but I digress.

Anyhoo, the gf is pissed. And all I can say to her is: there's a lot of folks in FL who are going to need a lot more than dehumidifiers this weekend. That shut her up. ;)

So be safe, my hurricane-harrassed, skydiving-type friends. Remember, you are masters of the air, but water can still kick your ass, so BE AS SAFE AS YOU CAN. See you soon!

It doesn't seem too bad. 50+ gusting to 80.
Worst is supposed to start around 1 and last 4+ hours. A lot have lost power, even in shelters.
But, we have cable, water and electric.

What's your excuse for not jumping? :P

Any predictions on how much rain the coast is going to get?

I think the average is going to be about 10". I hope they are wrong.

We just got the first feeder band here and the hurricane is still way off from hitting land.

I'm not sure that it's left the Bahamas yet.
There was a wicked band headed south off of Palm Beach a little while ago

10" today? Holy chit.

And my house sits on a canal off the river... guess it's a good thing the water level in the canal was low...

Sigh.

Hang in there gang. I still think you're all nuts for staying in the state. ;)

10" today? Holy chit.

Actually, that's 10" through the whole storm. It's going to take until Monday morning to pass through because it's so huge and moving so slowly.

The weather guy is doing a rain play-by-play right now. He's predicting:

15" for Daytona
13" for Titusville
11" for Melbourne

We just had the Cop's come buy telling us this is a MANDATORY evacuation area and that we have to get out....:o
well, seeing that the path can change with in the next 12 hours (the time the real hurricane winds will hit the coast...:S and then we have another 12 hours before it hit's us up here...) i think we will just sit here and watch the news real close....
we have tropical storm (50+ mph) winds here during afternoon thunder storms, and thats all they are calling for us to get here in the hills...;)
HAVE FUN...

Now that Frances has slowed down, the weather guy I'm watching changed the rain prediction. Now he said by 4:15 pm Monday the totals will be:

Daytona: 21"
Orlando: 20"
Melbourne: 18"

Keep in mind that the ground is already saturated from Charley and daily afternoon thunderstorms. I just moved anything valuable to me off the floors.
