kelpdiver 2 #26 September 10, 2004 QuoteQuoteI wanna know where Australasia is?? Is this a new country? Typical american who doenst know the world's regions... We refer to that continent as Australia, and I dare say that is more commonly accepted than the vague Australasia or Oceania. I'd never even heard the phrase before this discussion - read that it refers to Australia plus a random number of the other islands in the Pacific. Perhaps a more common word in the Kingdom nations. More commonly accepted by who? I think the kiwi's and others might be a little upset if you referred to them as "part of australia" Australia is a country, not a continent.Never try to eat more than you can lift

Or is Oceania their bread and butter? As to not being a continent, nonsense. People around the world are taught anywhere from 4 to 7 continents. In the US it is held that there are 7, and Australia is one of them. It's semantics at best.
