Michele 1 #1 September 10, 2004 I swear, some days it's just not worth trying to turn on the tv. Because then the lovely glow you had from skydiving with a friend gets blown (well, it got blown earlier, but more about that on a different post....) My Sony Trinitron is getting power, but the standby button is blinking. Now, I'd look up what the means, but it's been years since I saw head or tails of the direction book. I have power, but no picture, no sound, and no amount of button pushing on the remote is doing a damned thing. I've unplugged it to let it "reset", but that hasn't done a damned thing either. Argh.... Any ideas? Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

Michele 1 #3 September 10, 2004 Cable - and yes, I paid the bill. (Yesterday, as a matter of fact....). Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
Jib 0 #4 September 10, 2004 TV/VCR or Source button? Do you get anything on the screen at all? Michele 1 #6 September 10, 2004 TV/VCR or Source button? ~I have no idea. I have two remotes, if that's what you mean, but the only one I usually use is the cable one, because that's how it's set up. And no, I didn't set it up, either. ~Do you get anything on the screen at all? Nope. Nada. ~Did you try a tape or DVD? Um, that's the other problem. I've had a tape stuck in my vcr for about a year, and I don't have a DVD. I am soooooooooooo totally completely electronically challenged. I could get disability payments it's so bad. Jib 0 #7 September 10, 2004 Try using the TV remote to change the source (TV/VCR button). Many tv's let you change from tv to vcr by hitting a button instead of the old way (which still works if set up that way) of setting the tv to channel 3. -------------------------------------------------- the depth of his depravity sickens me. -- Jerry Falwell, People v. Michele 1 #8 September 10, 2004 Jib, I have it set to channel three (or did, until I started pushing buttons. At this point, it's probably set to explode in 5 minutes.) The little stupid red light on the tv shows it's getting power (it says "stereo"), and the light under it blinks too (it says "timer/standby"). I think that's the problem, the timer thing. But I have no idea.... Sigh. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
LouDiamond 1 #9 September 10, 2004 Quoteand no amount of button pushing on the remote is doing a damned thing. Have you actually tried pushing the "ON" button located on the TV itself? Some appliances require 20-30 mins to reset some times."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
Michele 1 #10 September 10, 2004 Hi, Lou. Although I am exactly the sort of person you would want to ask that of, yes, I did. However, I didn't know it could take that long to reset. So I will do it again....and see. The tv is only about 4 years old, and the last Sony Trinitron I had literally went through two earthquakes and about 15 years, so I really don't think it's the tv itself. Sigh. This stuff just befuddles me. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
Michele 1 #11 September 10, 2004 Dear Mr. LifewithoutaNet. I looked for that link earlier. I really really did. I had no luck. But you - brilliant man - have done it. I just clicked over to it, and I've found a tutorial which says "there is no picture or sound and the standby/timer light is flashing." Sounds like my problem. I thought I'd post this while I was waiting for the tutorial to upload. Of course, it may say "Michele, you're an idiot, and don't deserve a tv, so we're not telling you anything." OTOH, it may be exactly what I need. It's taking forever to load, though. I'll let you know. And thanks for your help. My brother simply suggested several different sized hammers. Michele 1 #15 September 10, 2004 I am considering hammers, bats, and ax handles at this point. Sigh... Nothing worked, and I was exhausted last night, so I just went to bed early. I'll try to fiugre this out today or this weekend....but the silence is bothering me. Does anyone know if the world exploded overnight? Michele 1 #16 September 11, 2004 Sigh. Well, I ended up calling the repair guy, and he left a few minutes ago to make the repairs at his shop. It seems it shorted out some of the things that make it work, and it needs more of them. The parts start with a "c", but I don't remember what they're called. I should get it back sometime on Thursday (not because of them, but because I won't be around 'til then). The good news is reading through all the manuals and reading about coaxial cables and whatnot, I was able to hook up a small tv, and I've got it on now. LOL, the silver lining is I've learned how to hook things up, at least. Thanks for all the attempts...it was something we couldn't have handled but I do appreciate the help.
