Guiltless A/C

Recommended Posts

We had another CAL-ISO system warning today; temps here are unusually high and the load on the power grid was getting close to the generation limit. I got home, checked the meters and found out I was generating about 900 watts. (Peak is around 2500 but the sun was getting low.) I turned on the A/C, a wall unit that takes about 700 watts - and I was still sending extra power back to the grid. As the sun drops it should balance out around 6pm, at which time demand on the grid should start dropping as businesses shut down for the weekend.

I'm selfish. I run my A/C whenever I please and never look at the meter.:P

I set the thermostat for 73 degrees. Period.

I flip the switch from "cool" to "heat" about the second week of October, and back again about the start of May.

It's all new, but it's still not cheap. If those panels would come down a bit, an array would be nice. Cooktop, Oven, washer, dryer, dishwasher, water heater, an assortment of computers, a 4 person spa in my master bath.... all electricly operated....
