Vallerina 2 #1 September 13, 2004 Okay, so I'm still trying out this whole not eating meat thing. I went to the health food store, and I bought a ton of organic food. I bought meatless deli meats and cheese. I've been snacking on organic soy yogurt. I'm doing what I can. I've had two problems so far. #1 I am really really really exhausted. I want to sleep all the time. I am sleeping well at nights, and that's why it's even more bothersome. #2 I am not lactose intolerant, and I tried switching over to organic milk. OUCH! I finally put two and two together, and I realized that it was making my stomach hurt and do gross things. Is this normal? Why is it doing that? Thanks, all! There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
Stumpy 284 #2 September 13, 2004 Hey Vallerina, i don't know how long you have been doing it, (and i am totally no expert) but i had a mate who had the same thing, and all it took was time - you have made a fairly big change and your body needs time to adjust. The milk thing i don't know - maybe the organic milk is a lot richer?? Good for you though, hope it gets better, DaveNever try to eat more than you can lift
eeneR 3 #3 September 13, 2004 Have to agree...you have made sudden changes to your diet, and are having these things introduced all at once. You may want to introduce these new things one at a time, and over time. Vallerina 2 #7 September 13, 2004 Quotei found banana and marmalade sandwiches really good for keeping energy levels up Well, I usually eat a banana every morning...hmm And, Sunny, I definitely don't eat enough iron. The only iron I get is from my vitamins. I've never gotten enough iron in my diet, though (hence, why I always had to eat a burger before giving blood, otherwise, I couldn't!)There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

I've known people that could only eat meat that was grown "organic." I'm sure a Dr. could test you for that.

I don't think so because I don't puke it up every time I eat. It's pretty random when I have puked it up. It doesn't happen often, but it's always a very painful experience. Vallerina 2 #23 September 13, 2004 Quote>But, when I puke up red meat....what's my body telling me then? Don't do twelve shots of tequila after you eat steak? Surprisingly enough, puking up red meat were the few times I've vomitted that weren't due to alcohol induced sickness. My body definitely doesn't like red meat. It always feels horrible after I eat it (although, it does have a nice amount of iron.) Most other meats that I like to eat have no redeeming qualities. I can get protein from soy. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
scottbre 0 #24 September 13, 2004 "Dried fruits, wholegrains (including wholemeal bread), nuts, green leafy vegetables, seeds and pulses (chickpeas, baked beans, lentils etc.)are rich sources of iron. These foods are generally consumed in reasonable quantities so can provide a good proportion of daily iron requirements. Also of relevance are parsley, watercress, edible seaweeds and black molasses, although none of these are usually consumed in large quantities. Iron is absorbed less well from plant based foods than from meat, as it is in the non-haem form, but it's absorption is improved by the presence of Vitamin C, malic acid and citric acid. Good Vitamin C sources are green leafy vegetables (including cauliflower), citrus fruits, mangoes, tomatoes and potatoes. Citrus fruit is also a source of citric acid, whilst malic acid is found in apples, plums and pumpkins (amongst other foods). Phytates (such as in nuts, grains and seeds) can reduce iron absorption, as can tannins (from tea). Generally, because of the high dietary intake of iron rich foods in a balanced vegan diet, these two negative factors are not usually a problem but iron deficiency can occur as a result of heavy menstruation. The use of iron cookware can also increase iron intake." "Your mother's full of stupidjuice!" My Art Project
Daizey 0 #25 September 13, 2004 Hey ValAre you getting enough protein? My friend tried the same thing you are doing and she was exhausted all the time as well-even after getting a good nights rest....the doctor suggested she get more protein into her diet -she started eating all sorts of nuts and oatmeal, tofu, and I think some fish (although I think she has since then taken that back out of her diet) and it helped significantly. The other thing he told her was to up her greens (particularly i think broccoli and spinach) She did both and it helped significantly Try doing a search for Vegan websites as well...Im not sure what exactly youve cut out of your diet, but some of those websites have good advice...my friend (who sounds as if she did the same thing you have) used to reference one in particular all the time...next time i talk to her Ill find it out for ya if you'd like *daizey*
