MWGemini 0 #1 September 14, 2004 The topic pretty much says it. I'm 23, she will be turning 23. We have been engaged for two years (proposed on her b-day as a matter of fact) and living together for just shy of two years. She has jumped twice, both tandems, but doesn't really want to go again. She enjoys kayaking and mountain biking, doesn't wear jewelry except on rare occasions (including the $3k diamond ring and the $800 matching earrings I gave her two years ago ) I am pretty much out of 'good' ideas, don't have any new gag ideas, and gift certificates to a bike store or kayak store just seem really thoughtless. Guys, gals, please help this hapless shopper out Thanks, Mike

kai2k1 0 #4 September 14, 2004 Get her a cashmere sweater and a dildo. Tell her if she doesn't like the sweater she can go f**k herself!! There's no truer sense of flying than sky diving," Scott Cowan
MWGemini 0 #5 September 14, 2004 LOL, nice. While the sweater and dildo idea isn't TERRIBLY bad, I think the comment associated with it would ensure I sleep on the couch for a while. Seriously though, 2 year anniversary of engagement, she's tough as hell to shop for, but I want to do something special besides the usual dinner, roses, movie, bubble bath, etc. I can probably spend a few hundred on it, but the less I spend, the more I jump, so....... kai2k1 0 #6 September 14, 2004 Ok, seriously check this out: www.vtbear.com They're totally kewl, you can even order them with chocolates and roses. MWGemini 0 #7 September 14, 2004 Ok, that has the cute and cuddly thing going for it, another possible contender. Any other ideas? Keep 'em coming! Thanks, Mike

MWGemini 0 #9 September 14, 2004 No offense, but is a gift like this suited more the the 'prissy' girls than the tom-boys? My fiancee is very much a tom-boy, never wears make-up, etc, but I'm thinking the massage and spa bit would be nice for her. Certainly better than the massages I give. Good ideas so far, what else do ya have? Thanks, Mike

Thanks, Mike whoa. hahahahha. no offense taken, but you obviously don't know me at all if you are calling me a prissy girl. i've worn makeup maybe 5 days in my life. i'm very outdoorsy and active. and i had never been to a spa before that. but hey.... suit yourself. Ncrowe 0 #13 September 14, 2004 Umm a tom-boy you say ? How about a 12 guage shot gun and some clay pigeons? You can always throw a dildo in there but i'd watch what you say espcially after getting her a shotgun:) I know im very helpfull "Don't Mess Around With the Guy in Shades- Oh No!!! I have to agree with these two on this one. My favorite gift ever from my ex was a day at the spa, including a massage, facial, manicure, pedicure and lunch. It was the best except when it was time to leave, I thought they were going to have to drag me out. I loved it so much, I now do it for myself once or twice a year. It does not matter what "type" or girl she is, everyone loves to be pampered once in awhile. Vermont Teddy Bears are cute but I have one and it just sits and collects dust. Something I did once for my boyfriend's birthday...took him out for dinner, then for a horse and carriage ride around Boston, then said we were going to this hotel bar for a drink, where I had rented a room earlier that day, went in, put a bottle of champagne on ice, chocolates and rose petals all over the bed, and brought a CD player and had it playing romantic music when we arrived, also a few fun things waiting as well, you can imagine the rest. I am the type of person who likes experiences over material objects. Whatever you do, I am sure she will love it. Have fun! MWGemini 0 #15 September 14, 2004 She already has a 9mm and shoots better than I ever have (and I was trained by the military). As for the dildo- that could put me out of a job, and I don't want that ;P Maybe I should be a bit more specifc. Would a gift certificate be really thoughtless and tacky, even though she would get the most use out of that? This would probably be in addition to something more frilly and useless, but nice to do (like the spa idea). I've got just over a week, gotta make up my mind soon. MWGemini 0 #17 September 14, 2004 What you described with the rented hotel, I did that last year, we spent a weekend at a nice resort during a hurricane, with nothing to do but stay inside. Pampered her all weekend, even paid a friend to detail her car while we were away (and took that Friday off and cleaned the house that she didn't get to see until Sunday). Part of the problem is that I tend to go a little over the top on things, and then I have to do even better the next year, and I'm out of good ideas that I haven't already done at least once. windcatcher 0 #18 September 14, 2004 What about making her something, like say, a birdhouse made out of popsicil sticks? LOL! Just joking, maybe something that she's wanted to try before, like salsa dance lessons, a cooking class, hmmm? Just make it personal and specific to HER and HER needs, don't think about what YOU would like, just think about what really makes her passion. Sarah Mother to the cutest little thing in the world... linny 1 #19 September 14, 2004 hi mike... IMO, anything even remotely close to a stuffed animal is a bad idea. spa is a great idea for most girls... i dont know if you have a spa with hot springs anywhere near where you're at, but those are super fun. hang gliding. whale watching. the george forman grill (j/k) there's always a shiny new copy of PST 2003 hey, why don't you take her to vegas and finally MARRY her after 2 years of engagement already!! ps. sorry dude, this post was completely useless and nonesensical. good luck though
davedlg 0 #20 September 14, 2004 If you both have the time, take her to Costa Rica (or something like that) for a week or so. I went there with my GF several years ago and It was one of the best trips I have ever been on! We spent three days in Corcovado N.P. backpacking through the rainforest, past waterfalls, along black sand beaches. Then we went sea kayaking. You can do canopy tours, whitewater rafting, surfing...It's a great place!
VanillaSkyGirl 6 #21 September 14, 2004 QuoteIf you both have the time, take her to Costa Rica (or something like that) for a week or so. That sounds wonderful, Davedlg! My BF is offering to take me to Costa Rica during the X-mas holiday season, but I already had plans to go to Eloy. Gosh, I would love to do both... Anyway, MWGemini, I agree with Linny about NOT getting a stuffed animal/toy. (I find it a little tacky.) Taking her away on a mini-vacation sounds wonderful, though! Yes, I highly recommend some place special for just the two of you in a natural, magical enviroment. My first time to some natural hot springs (also recommende by Linny I see!) on an off-season, so that we were practically alone, has been one of my favorite trips ever with my BF. Finally, try making her something yourself. Write/play her a song, create/recite her a poem, make her a full-course meal, carve her some artwork, etc. There is nothing like spending the time and effort making something special for someone. However, a weekend getaway somewhere is certainly within reason. I'll check around and see if I can find a day spa as mentioned above, and probably get her something for her bike or kayak as well (which will probably end up being a gift certificate since I don't know what parts she needs :/) To the person who suggested taking her to Vegas and marrying her- we've already discussed that. Do the Flying Elvi do weddings? Thanks, Mike P.S. Any other ideas anyone has, send them my way.
