CanuckInUSA 0 #1 August 31, 2004 The hockey World Cup starts today. Canada, the USA, Russia and Slovakia will be playing their preliminary games in North America while Sweden, Finland, the Czech Republic and Germany playing their games in Europe (the finals will be played in Toronto). So who's going to win? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

CanuckInUSA 0 #3 August 31, 2004 QuoteI want the USA to win, but I think Canada will. The USA is the defending World Cup champion (back in 1996). But Canada did win the last time a tournament like this meant anything (the 2002 Winter Olympics). Of course any one of the teams (with the exception of Germany) can win this. It usually all boils down to who has the hot goalie. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
murrays 0 #4 September 1, 2004 Canada should win and I want them to win ..... but they deserve to lose for the ugliest uniforms since the original Vancouver Canucks uniforms way back when. CanuckInUSA 0 #10 September 1, 2004 LOL ... Tuna doesn't understand this difference between the World Cup and the Stanley Cup. Who cares about who wins the Stanley Cup. It's international tournaments which defines Canada and hockey. Canada looked like World beaters in the first period. They looked mediorce in the 2nd half of the 2nd period and resorted to your typical (tight) NHL tactics in the 3rd. But the bottom line is that they won the game. Of course the marbles won't be on the table on until this time next week. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
lawrocket 3 #11 September 2, 2004 Canada and Sweden both looking like teams to beat. Sweden winning, but not impressively. My wife is hotter than your wife.
CanuckInUSA 0 #12 September 2, 2004 From what I understand the Czechs played really well in the 3rd period of yesterday's 4-3 loss to Sweden. So I wouldn't count the Czechs out yet in the European pool. Canada has looked good. But these preliminary games are more symbolic. The marbles will be on the table for the taking next week. May the best team win and hopefully the refs won't be deciding the games. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
lawrocket 3 #13 September 2, 2004 Yeah, I understand the Czechs outshot the Swedes something like 40-20. My wife is hotter than your wife.
CanuckInUSA 0 #14 September 3, 2004 The US and Russia played an entertaining game last night (Russia winning 3-1) and the biggest thing I took away from that game was that Russia is still a very good hockey nation and Saturday's Russia/Canada hockey game will be good. Too bad it won't be covered down here in the good ol'e US of A as ESPN I guess has figured that it's more important to have the ump'teenth college football game of the day shown on TV instead of showing this classic hockey game. Good thing that this game doesn't mean that much in the big picture as that would really suck if it was the World Cup finals and ESPN would carry some baseball or college football game instead. Question: Can the US beat Slovakia tonight and if they can't doesn't it really matter? They're going to have to play Canada or Russia in the quarter finals anyway. CanuckInUSA 0 #15 September 7, 2004 Well the marbles are now on the table as the elimination games have already begun. Finland has sent Germany home with their 2-1 win yesterday. Sweden hosts the Czech Republic this morning, while the USA will play Russia this evening and Canada will play Slovakia tomorrow night. May the best team win. CanuckInUSA 0 #17 September 8, 2004 If I was a fan of USA Hockey (which I am not), I would think that they are sitting pretty good for making it to the finals (they will play Finland on Friday in one semi-final game and I think they'll win that one). They beat Russia tonight 5-3 in a very entertaining game and the line of Tkachuk, Modano and Gomez kicked ass factoring in in all 5 of the USA's goals (with Tkachuk scoring 4 goals and assisting on Gomez's goal). The Czech Republic smashed Sweden 6-1 and assuming Canada can beat Slovakia (if they can't you might as well just kill me now and the rest of Canada as I don't know if we can handle that sort of shit), Canada will then have to play the Czechs in the other semi-final. I don't know, it could be another North American World Cup final, but I'm not so sure if Canada peaked too early in this tournament or if I'm just being a little paranoid. murrays 0 #23 September 11, 2004 USA is out. Tomorrow night's game between Canada and the Czechs should be a good one and will likely produce the World Cup Champ.
