how do you do?

How about what TO DO:

Learn true respect for each other.
Spend time together learning about the world and each others values.
Discover the strength of partnership. You know doing homework together, helping each other with chores, etc.

Recently one of my youth asked me how do you date in a christian manner, i was flabbergasted. I did not have that much to say, i simply told him what not to do. (i.e. get down with the sex before marriage)

Any other bright ideas on what not to do?[:/]

Why were you so flabbergasted, Joshua? It was an honest question, and you ARE a youth minister. :)

Do you agree with what is considered "wrong" (sexually speaking) before marriage in your religion, btw?

I was flabbergasted because, he was being so very honest with me, he told me his fears and his concerns, I just want him to know about grace.

as for considering what is "wrong" I adhere to my church's doctrine even though I have fallen short in the past. That is my personal belief, but i must quote the apostle paul, "the things I want to do I do not do, and those things I wish not to do, I do."

Ahh, what a wonderful world.

Yes, I understand.

That must be sooo difficult for you. I think that it is biologically within our basic chemistry to be sexual beings.

I'm definitely down with paul, he's the fashizzle ;) Anyway, how bout reading the Word/praying with one another? If your youth have a passion for Christ, encourage them to transfer that devotion to their dating lives as well. Finding someone 'equally yoked' is a good suggestion.

Don't mean to sound textbook, of course there's much time for fun and games. Have him find his own conviction on 'how far is too far' etc. But yeah, you already told him where the line is drawn :P

I agree that there is nothing more beautiful than making love to a person whom you are totally in love with. Monogamy and waiting until you are married is a wonderful thing. My mother was a virgin, and she was about 28 when she was married. I decided to wait until I was in love and in a long-term committed relationship myself. I think that waiting is a good message if the person is wanting and willing to commit to the sacrifice. :)
Thanks for posting, Joshua! :)

I agree with Bonnie. In my opinion, respect is the most important thing in a relationship. It goes way beyond treating each other nicely though. You have to respect the other person as an individual who has different ideas and thoughts than you do. You don't have to agree with that person, you just have to respect their opinion. So many people have a problem doing that.

Nice, Romans 7:15-18, that's a fun one.

Work on this.

Work on telling them what would be fun and Christ-like to do and work on refraining telling them not to do. Keep things positve instead of the negative of "no, you can't do that."
