Amazon 7 #51 September 15, 2004 She is not the only one down there I am upset with. Homes and STUFF can be replaced.. Lives lost can not. Take the things that are important to you and move out of its path. The most important things are your family. I have people in my family all thru the coastal regions of the south. My mother lives one block from the Atlantic in South Carolina at 5' above sea level... my aunt and uncle live just 4 blocks away.. 3 ft in elevation higher. Myrtle Beach is nothing more than a series of sand dunes/sand bar that has been covered by development. Another aunt lives at Jacksonville Beach in a home that they bought realllllly cheap after Hurricane Dora in 1964. The two story BRICK building was completely gutted by the storm. It washed out the front of the house and removed the plaster from the lath on the walls and ceiling of the first floor rooms No windows survived anywhere in the house. The storm surge was harsh and it dug a 12 ft deep hole on the back side of the sea wall in front of the house by washing over the seawall and lashing the house.( they filled in the hole with a really nice DEEP in ground swimming pool when they reconstructed the house) So.. every time one of these things spin up out there in the Atlantic old memories of storms that hit us in my childhood return and I have to worry about my family. At least these days my mother and aunts have enough sense to head inland to higher safer ground.
