ltdiver 3 #1 September 18, 2004 ******WARNING....SPOILERS!******* ********************************* So, just got back from Opening Night of Sky Captain And The World Of Tomorrow. Anyone else take the time to see it today? Gotta say, the mood lighting of the subjects was cool (like Casablanca), however the story line was borrowed all the way through from other movie hits! Why can't they get a new and stimulating idea? They could have done so much more with this flick! Movies it borrowed from, for a quick look. 1) Star Wars (light sabers, the inside of the Death Star, large fighting robots stamping around, and Yoda's Swamp in Dagobah) 2) Jurassic Park (dinosaurs and plants) 3) The Bible (yeah, I know...some people call it a fictional book ) 4) 2001:A Space Odyssey ( [a] machines ruling the humans) 5) The Wizard of Oz (only -this- time the man behind the mask ends up being dead! Geeze!) Anything else I've missed? Guess I'm glad I saw it (for the wonderful graphics and all), but it sure won't be a DVD on my personal shelf. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

Deuce 1 #3 September 18, 2004 Hey, I just got back and I loved it. There are few and far between movies I can enjoy just as much as my wife and 8 year olds. It's a big time GO for families. I love art deco sci-fi.

PhreeZone 20 #6 September 18, 2004 Plot left a lot to be desired, but at least some of the attempts at humor went well. The Art-deco lighting was perfect. The movie was in post-production since early 2003, and because of that I was expecting just a slightly better plot. I figured out that the girl was a robot at the first encounter with her, and it was hard to like Polly knowing that she was lying the whole time so those were both major let downs... but the aerial battles and the undersea action was great.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
quade 4 #7 September 18, 2004 Gorgerous film. It really needs to win a special Oscar for its design work. The first 10 minutes of the film are -amazing-. The look of this film goes -far- beyond the simple lighting. -EVERY- shot in the film is a special effects shot. This is on the level of Star Wars Episode 2 as far as number and complexity of effects. Where the wheels fall off the wagon is that it looks as if they made all of this gorgeous footage and then were afraid to cut some of it to speed up the pace of the film between the action sequences. What I really liked about the story was how it took some reality and mixed it in with the pure fantasy elements. For instance, did you know that the top of the Empire State Building really -was- designed as docking port for large dirigibles like the Zeppelin? I really appreciate stuff like that thrown into the fantasy mix of giant flying robots . . . just really cool stuff.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

AggieDave 6 #10 September 18, 2004 QuoteFor instance, did you know that the top of the Empire State Building really -was- designed as docking port for large dirigibles like the Zeppelin? Yes and it wasn't popular, infact it was only used once if I remember correctly, people wigged out at walking the gangway that high in the air to the building. For some reason they just weren't comfortable with it. Another reason it was only used once is that pesky Hindenberg that shattered confidence in the Zeppelins and that pesky WWII thing that sort of popped up.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
