piisfish 140 #1 September 15, 2004 Ok, so my question is, do you shave/wax your legs ??? I don't, well at least for the moment. Cold season is coming... Maybe next summer...scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM

piisfish 140 #3 September 15, 2004 yeah ok, the question was more directly addressed to a branch of population usually less concerned by depilating other parts than their faces... but if you shave because you cycle, the answer is to be taken into account...scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM
skydiver30960 0 #4 September 15, 2004 I used to shave my legs when I was cycling (road and mountain) in high school and college. It usually got some weird looks, but it was worthwhile: 1.) The whole "hairy, roadrashed legs get infected easier than smooth, roadrashed legs" arguement is one that goes round and round in cycling circles. Some say it helps prevent infection, others say you're more likely to get an infection from shaving than from dirt kept in a wound by the hair. Take it or leave it, it's your call. 2.) I DO know that shaved legs are easier to deal with when it comes time to dress the inevitable roadroash, scrapes and cuts that come from road wrecks and the usual mountainbiking "booboos". 3.) Intimidation. I know I know, sounds stupid but it's true. The muscle tone shows better, and most "hard core" cyclists do it. Most cyclists will argue over #1 and #3, and most non-cyclists will LAUGH at #1 and #3, but I can say from experience that reason #2 makes shaving worthwhile. You don't have to rip out too many leg hairs with bandages and first aid tape before shaving seems pretty low-effort by comparison. If you can give me something that might make me faster or give me something I think will make me faster, I will take the latter. Notes for the first time: start with an electric razor and knock down the big stuff, then clean it up with a regular razor. Do it in the morning. If you do it closer to the night without a chance to get use to it, you will not sleep that night. It just feels different. Not right, not wrong, just real different.Shit happens. And it usually happens because of physics.

christoofar 0 #8 September 25, 2004 QuoteOk, so my question is, do you shave/wax your legs ??? I don't, well at least for the moment. Cold season is coming... Maybe next summer... I tried that once, but I found the bumps and leg pimples (I'm a hairy bastard below the waist) too be too painful to put up with... so I'd rather just rub oil or lotion on my quads before I put the shorts on to keep the chafing down. Of course... anybody who knows me knows that I am a terrible cyclist anyway... I crashed and burned a year or so ago on a little huffy bike @ WFFC (ok I had beer)... road rashed up my right side of my face and got knocked out for about 15 minutes! The burn pain was so awful the only way the thumping pain would go away was at altitute with the cold air, so I was raping my credit cards to get jump tickets like crazy!! ____________________________________________________________ I'm RICK JAMES! With antibacterial Neosporin, that's no longer a good argument. I've roadrashed my hairy legs to no end and never got infected. And when I crashed my face into asphalt on a bike I had a full beard going (mind you that DID suck trying to shave my beard... I also got an "artificial" cleft in my chin now thanks to that) ____________________________________________________________ I'm RICK JAMES! Fo shizzle.
