greybeard 0 #1 September 23, 2004 Is it coincidence, that most reports and rumors of stolen gear seem to come from California? I can't remember how many times, in fifteen years, I have left a gear item, ( helmet, altimeter, packing map, whatever) on the packing floor or in the bar or somewhere on the DZ, only to get a call from someone who found it or find it myself right where I left it, or at manifest. Too many years and too many instances to just say "lucky".
VectorBoy 0 #2 September 25, 2004 It is suspect. Our dropzone used to be the kind of place that you could leave your gear out, although all bets were off after dark, and never have any problems. Our high profile losses, if I understand correctly, aren't skydiving related but things like bicycles that anyone can use and redistribute without suspicion. In one case a vagrant was found and I hope charged when a local saw a DZ bike in his possession. And then there are some reports (or tales) of camera related stuff disappearing but I can't verify this.
linny 1 #3 September 25, 2004 Is it coincidence, that most reports and rumors of stolen gear seem to come from California? "" I don't know what you'd call it, but it sounds about right. My Neptune just got up and walked away about two weeks ago in Perris. The sad thing is that the DZ is the ONLY place on earth that I leave my shit just laying around unattended. I trust my buddies and fellow skydivers there. We're all in the same boat, no one wants to get their shit stolen. But Perris and other surrounding DZ's have TONS of travelers. How easy would it be for someone from BFE to come to Perris and gank someone's shit, then go home and use it. Nobody would ever know...... Sad, really. RevJim 0 #4 September 25, 2004 Linny, did you report it stolen to Alti-2? If not, please do, and make sure it gets listed on their website (here at dz.com too). The reason is that when we in the field support program check every Altimeter we get in for an update against the stolen list. If it's not on the list, we don't know it's stolen. Mine was stolen too. How many black Neptunes do you see with hot pink battery covers? I'm guessing one, and if you see that one, please let me know. It's your life, live it!
