riggerrob 643 #1 November 10, 2009 How many riggers still pack round reserves? How many rounds do you pack per year? Pilot emergency parachutes really should be counted separately. Since my DZO banned round reserves five years ago, I can count on the fingers of one hand how many round reserves I have packed. On the other hand I pack maybe twenty round canopies into PEPs per year. It is hardly worth keeping the long table, however, I told him that the day I lose access to the long table is the last day I pack a round canopy. pchapman 280 #2 November 10, 2009 I haven't bothered with pilot rigs in recent years, due to lack of space to easily pack them in my home, and because it isn't worth the time unless I'm feeling current on them and packing them regularly. Getting paid for packing skydiving round reserves from the general skydiving populace? That I do only maybe once a year, from the occasional guy who jumps very very infrequently and hangs onto his old rig. We've got a few round reserves at the DZ in old containers used for accuracy and CRW. I've packed some of them, but a couple owners are riggers themselves so they deal with that. Otherwise I just pack rounds in a my own old rigs, either historic rigs or for accuracy.

councilman24 37 #4 November 10, 2009 I do more pilot rigs with rounds than anything else anymore. The younger rigger in town is out at the DZ a whole lot more than me and has picked up most of the newer jumpers. And a lot of the old farts that would come to me have quit. I'd actually like to do more PEP's. A whole lot easier than skydiver rigs. As to the long table I use the same thing I've seen most others use, 8' banquet tables. I have 5 plus a 6 footer and get out what I need. (Need the 46' for a preserve V) I use plastic ones now that are a whole lot lighter than the fiber board ones I used to have. The are stored on a moving dolly that I added upright pipe sides to. No, they are not 36" wide but do the job. If ever called on it I'll either get 36" ones or build tops for them. They come in handy at Thanksgiving and for yard sales too. Send all your rounds to me. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
stratostar 5 #5 November 10, 2009 My personal vintage collection of sport gear and every now and again a pilot bail out. I used to have a round in my sport rig, but thats been 14 years ago, no so much about getting older & wiser as is it about being able to jump in higher winds...... you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
buff 0 #6 November 10, 2009 My rigger packs alot of rounds. 5 aircraft plants here in town so he does a good business. He does sport rigs too but I'll bet he does more rounds than squares. There are others at the DZ who can get your sport done. It's called the Hillbilly Hop N Pop dude. If you're gonna be stupid, you better be tough. That's fucked up.
