compressing video files

ok, so if I wanted to send or upload a video file what program would I use to shrink it to a small enough size to send/upload it.

are there any FREE programs?

dude..

on my site I have like 300 or so videos and i use ulead to do it. of all the programs, ulead did the best job of compression and quality. give it a shot.

It depends on the ENCODING, MPG. WMV are the smallest, if you want you can encode using DIVX, which produces a small AVI file and good quality, the thing is that the end user will have to install the decoder, which of course is free

Windows media encoder is free. Makes .wmv files. It'll take some trial end error to get good compression while maintaining decent quality. You can get it at microsoft.com.

but in order to do that you need to edit in ULEAD studio,right?

Dude, if you have XP on your machine, use MOVIE MAKER, it comes with the OS

movie maker sucks. unless you mean that I can compress a movie I made in premeire.

MOVIE MAKER SUCKS??? HUMBUG!!!, you can use the MS encoder, but if you ALREADY have MM, then import that file and save it, it will convert it to wmv
