Why do I feel beat up (after skydiving)?

Recommended Posts

What is it about skydiving that makes you feel like you got beat up or just had a workout ? After 3 days and 15 jumps at the Byron Boogie, I feel like I got beat up. Every muscle hurts. I was a little sore Sunday morning, but today, I could barely get out of bed.

I told my g/f and some friends that I felt so worn out, and they ask "Whuffo you feel so beat up for? all you do is jump out of an airplane. It's not like you're using any muscles or anything." Excuse me?? Not using any muscles ? I try to explain to them that there's more to it than just falling from the sky, like precision muscle coordination, packing, walking to the airplane ;).

Ok, so what is it that makes you feel so beat up ?

Hmmm giving out so many Amazon hugs....

Drinking a whole bottle of AFTERSHOCK

Drinking part of a bottle of Goldschlager

Drinking that Captains concotion from the water bottle

Laying the numbers nekkid in the moonlight...

Riding the back of the gold cart topless shouting " I'm queen of the world"

Riding( or attempting) to ride that dayum shark that was a way too fast spin.

Taking people to 200 MPH+( :)
oh and all the stuff you said too.

Simple answer: dehydration. You're being active and 95% of the folks out there don't drink enough water...me included, especially while doing back to back tandems.

I brought 36 bottles of water with me to the boogie. I finished the last one, while driving home Sunday night. Plus I didn't drink any alcohol the whole time I was there. That sounds plausible, but still doesn't explain the muscle fatigue.

Dude I'm with you! Every muscle in my body is sore from packing, dancing, running to the plane, trying to hold on naked to... oh we're not supposed to talk about that...arching which I'm not used to doing and flying with all those fat fuckers.
Anyway I drink tons of water all day long so it's not dehydration for me.

I know I had a good weekend when I hurt all over Monday morning. I can barely move. :D

OMG- I thought it was just cause I am such a baby & new to the sport. You mean it doesn't get any better? At least my jaw-clenching soreness has started to disappear. I think I still have a little ESS-Exit Stress Syndrome, my little name for it.

Each opening is like a minor car accident.

Ahh!! That makes perfect sense. Never thought about that. I never really notice the opening shock with my Spectre. B|:P

You just gotta jump more, Corndog.

I thought that was just a newbie thing too. The tandems never bothered me, but when I did that first AFP, I was sore all over. Didn't realize it was so strenuous or that I was in such poor physical condition. I guess it's deceiving that falling should be easy.

It gets easier the more you do it. I'm averaging about 20 a week (skydives) these days, including tandems.

Of course because every car accident I get into it gets less painful then the last one...

not that I disagree that if I want to walk away from the DZ w/o being sore I should jump more.

I'm generally pretty active but after a long day of jumping out of aircraft I can be somewhat sore and its probably because I'm using muscles that I don't normally use...

Tell them to go stand in the middle of hurricane force winds for 15 minutes, then get in their car, put on the seat belt, drive 120mph and slam the brakes on 15 times and let you know how they feel.

Geez, Philly, at what point do you cut the buttons off their shirt and cast them out?

Being the compassionate convervative I am, I'll translate.

Ever see film of someone getting "drummed out" of the Foreign Legion?

They cut the buttons off the uniform, then do a kind of perp walk out of the fort.

Seemed like making them stand in a hurricane and then slam the brakes on their car 15 times would fit in there somewhere.

I'm not a medical-type person, so someone correct me if I'm wrong. There's also the issue of lactic acid build up in your muscles, that comes from anaerobic activity and intense excercise. Drinking water helps flush your system. So does proper stretching. You can also pick up herbal stuff to help, available at most natural health food stores.
At boogies and on weekends that I'm doing lots (by my standard!) of jumps - or skiing, biking, hiking - I drink this cold tea made by a company called SunRyder, it helps a lot. Sorry I can't remember the name of the drink off hand.

Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.

you gotta move those muscles. stretch regularly and do an occasional lap. it helps.( i can definitely feel it when I fall off my workout routine)
